The English manga is incomplete
The 2001 anime is hard to find after episode 26 and you're stuck with either a mediocre English dub or crabsticks
Most of the newer, shinier anime projects that would be more attractive to newcomers rely on some knowledge of events from the manga

I don't see how that matters. Cyborg 009 never had an ending by Ishinomori after trying so many times. you don't read 009 to reach the end. You read it for the journey.

The stuff that's adapted for he crossover with devil,an for example all falls within the first 10 volumes. Volume 10 was one the first endings proposed by Ishinomori anyway.
