Tiga's good. It's not the absolute best, but it does a good job of being a "basic" Ultraman and a perfect introductory series for someone wanting to get into the franchise. I always liked how surprisingly competent and on top of things GUTS usually was.

So we still haven't had word on whether Crunchyroll will do subs for Geed like they did with X and Orb as they aired?

X was only announced within a week of the first episode airing. Orb wasn't announced until about three or four before the first episode aired.

Not X. X is a yawn fest. Orb is good but keep in mind that it is tonally and structurally different from most other Ultras. It has a tighter focus on an overarching plot and the Earth defense organization is in the background. Instead our central characters are a kaiju equivalent of storm chasers.

I wonder how it's going to be the interaction between Zero and Riku. Will Tsuburaya make a reference to Ultraman Leo's controversial angle of Dan mentoring Gen? We have an older experienced Ultraman and a rookie on the same show and most probably Zero won't be able to transform on every episode just like his old man on Leo so that mean Zero will have to take the mentor role and making exposition. In one hand, nips love pottery, especially between father and son; but in the other hand Japan didn't like to see Dan becoming into a bitter broken man expressing his frustration on Gen. Seven is arguably the Superman of the Ultra franchise, even above Hayata. Probably it wasn't intentional but Zero's first regular host is a Clark Kent's rip-off. Zero will most likely be a more active and involved mentor and probably transform a good amount. In theory Zero is as he was in the Zero movie, and his biggest weakness there was conservation on energy as Zero's power and fighting style leads him to use a lot of energy quickly. The Ultimate Brace provided him with light from the multiverse so he had a much much longer time limit than other Ultras. With that gone I can see Zero using either short transformations to help/train Riki or he won't have enough energy needed to properly transform a lot.

I recently binged both Orb and Orb Origin Saga, and I gotta say, Origin Saga was pretty great and Orb felt kinda flaccid. The filler eps for Orb were great, though.

The main tv series had a lot more character development and heartfelt moments.

My opinion of the Origin Saga did improve a bit when I read some Chinese post about the implicit messages of the heros' decisions.

As far as I've been able to gather, Geed will have a more "brutal" and aggressive style compared to other Ultras. It probably won't be on the level of Thunder Breaster flipping monsters into apartment blocks and throwing office buildings at them, but I'm hoping it's still pretty heavy-hitting.

I definitely prefer Origin over The First. The black on Origin makes him unique and more visually interesting since having so much black on a heroic Ultra is rare. The only other ones I can think of off the top of my head are Victory and now Geed. Origin the First is a pretty bog-standard Ultra design by comparison.

Orb is neat, if a little different from most other Ultras.

Origin Saga is pretty forgettable and doesn't do much for Gai or Juggler's characters. The one truly memorable part is the Dyna/Gaia/Agul/Cosmos/Orb teamup at the end.

Ultra Kaiju are pretty much the best option for 'badguys' to fight for most Japanese toys. They fill in a gap left by a lack of villain presence a number of toy lines, so I often buy cool looking monsters from shows I haven't even seen yet. I know I have a few Gaia and Dyna monsters even though I haven't seen those shows yet.
