thought I would make a list of the longest running mecha anime franchises out there so here is the list
* indicates that the franchise is ongoing
>1-*Gundam (around 960 episodes) I lost count
>2-Brave/Yuusha series (429 episodes)
>3-*Mazinger (288 episodes)
>4-Tetsujin 28 (221 episodes)
>5-Getter Robo (170 episodes)
>6-*Macross (164 episodes)
>7-Eldran (154 episodes)
>8-Robot Romance Trilogy (138 episodes)
>9-*J9 (121 episodes)
>10-Raideen (114 episodes)
>>
>0-Doraemon (over 2600 episodes)
>>
11-20
>11-Machine Robo (104 episodes)
>12- Votoms (95 episodes)
>13-*Yamato (93 episodes)
>14(tie)-Tekkaman (84 episodes)
>14(tie)-*Eureka seven (84 episodes)
>15-Gaiking (83 episodes)
>16-Aquarion (82 episodes)
>17-Super Robot Wars (81 episodes)
>18-*Patlabor (77 episodes)
>19-Dagram (76 episodes)
>20-Godmars (66 episodes)
>>
the rest
>21-3 Series/daitarn/zambot 3 (not sure if it has a name) (63 episodes)
>22-Byston Well/Dunbine (61 episodes)
>23-Jeeg (59 episodes)
>24(tie)-Dancouga (56 episodes)
>24(tie)-*Code Geass (56 episodes)
>25-*Fafner (53 episodes)
>26-*Full Metal Panic (50 episodes)
>>
>>15622607
>Tetsujin 28 (221 episodes)
>Not counting Gao! episodes
>>
you forgot Zoids
>>
>>15622607
Why? Also, you're forgetting important factors and are doing weird math.
>>
>>15622633
no reason I was bored so I wanted to know what the longest running franchises were
I didn't spend much time counting so if anyone wants to correct this list then you are free to do so
>>
>>15622623
I wasn't sure if I should count Gao! and mazinger zip
>>
>>15622619
>3 Series/daitarn/zambot 3
wot
>>
>>15622625
Zoids is even more complicated than most because not only it was mostly toy-only for a very long time (with the backstory coming from manuals and stuff), it actually got western comics a decade and a half before it got the animu most people know

For OP who's just counting episodes it's going to be a clusterfuck
>>
>>15622619
Trider G7 is part of the invincible trilogy along with Daitarn and Zambot
You also forgot Transformers, Gatchaman and Mega Man (which has an astounding 283 anime episodes in addition the Ruby Spears cartoon and the various OVAs and movies) as well. Some people would also argue for LoGH and Digimon. I wouldn't bother going under the 60 episode count. Dozens of shows make it to around 50 episodes as is and many of those have some OVA episodes to push them over the line. Iron Leaguer and Rayearth are two such examples that you missed.
>>
>>15622724
None of that has anything to do with the metric he's going by, which is pure episode count. If he wanted to include comics and shit, he would have done so with the series he already did.
>>
What about Keroro and Dr Slump.
>>
>>15622838

If you want to count Keroro, 358 full episodes + 23 shorts + 1 OVA short
>>
>>15622625
>>15622724
>>15622811

Zoids has 169 episodes.

Chaotic Century = 67 episodes
New Century/Zero = 26 episodes
Fuzors = 26 episodes
Genesis = 50 episodes

transformers-optimus-prime-pen.jpg
63KB, 550x550px
Transformers has a LOT of episodes. This list doesn't include the movies, some online shorts... It's hard to nail it all down exactly. My count is 841 episodes.

G1 Cartoon = 98
Headmasters = 35
Masterforce = 42
Victory = 32
Beast Wars = 52
Beast Wars II = 43
Beast Wars Neo = 35
Beast Machines = 26
Car Robots = 39
Armada = 52
Energon = 52
Cybertron = 52
Animated = 42
Prime = 65
Go! = 10
Rescue Bots = 104
Robots in Disguise = 54
Combiner Wars = 8

Gobots is now owned by Hasbro and has become part of the TF umbrella, so if you include Challenge of the Gobots that adds another 65 episodes, for a total of 906.

There's also like 9 or 10 movies and OVAs, so you could call the total 915 or so.
>>
What about Super Sentai? It has giant robots in virtually every episode, and it's had about 50 episodes a year for about 40 years.

That's about 2000 episodes, plus movies and online offerings and direct-to-video stuff.
>>
>>15622917
I did specify anime
>>
Also, Hikarian has 156 episodes, with a 52-ep sequel series. Granted, many of those are short.

>>15622917
Only trouble is the OP said anime.
>>
Nothing really compares to Doraemon.
>>
Forgot Machine Robo with like 134 episodes
>>
>>15622607
>Robot Romance Trilogy
>3 Series/daitarn/zambot 3
Those are kinda weird to be considered franchises because the only thing tying them together is their directors. In that case do you consider everything Tomino/Takahashi/Kanda/etc. directors under the same franchises too?
>>

Gatchaman_by_garang76.jpg
505KB, 1400x744px
Everyone's favorite Science Ninja Team has 220 episodes.

Gatchaman = 105
Gatchaman II = 52
Gatchaman F = 48
OVA = 3
Crowds = 12
>>
>>15622944
Don't forget the Ohayou/Good Morning Gatchaman

>GATCHAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN
>>

dougram0018.jpg
543KB, 1400x2019px
Dougram had 75 episodes, all in one series. Not too shabby.
>>
Another big one missing is the Time Bokan franchise
>TIME BOKAN 61
>YATTERMAN 108
>ZENDAMAN 52
>OTASUKEMAN 53
>YATTODETAMAN 53
>IPPATSUMAN 58
>KIRAMEKIMAN 26
>TIME BOKAN 24 24

Yatterman itself has two spinoffs
>YATTERMAN (2008) 60
>YATTERMAN NIGHT 12 (No robots tho)
>>
>>15622980
Also, Hissatsuman technically counts as a Time Bokan series, since it's made by shared staff even if Tatsunoko will never acknowledge it.
>>
>>15622937
what did I miss from machine robo?
>>15622944
I have never seen gatchaman is it really a /m/ show?
>>15622980
just like gatchaman is it an /m/ series? and what makes it so?
>>15622942
that's a good question
what do you guys think should the Robot Romance Trilogy and The Invincible Trilogy be considered franchises and why?
>>
>>15622607
Should some of these be "entries or episodes"?
>>
>>15623219
Probably Machine Robo Battle Hackers.
>>
>>15623223
that was it thanks
>>
>>15623219
Gatchaman features a piloted giant turtle robot in the very first episode, which aired two years before Mazinger. The bad guys, Galactor, use such robots regularly. The Gatchaman team do not use robots themselves, but they do use impossible transforming vehicles. I'd say it counts. Not sure about Time Bokan.

>what do you guys think should the Robot Romance Trilogy and The Invincible Trilogy be considered franchises and why?
Aside from sharing studios and directors, IIRC they've had crossover manga and I know for a fact that they've had combo attacks with each other in SRW. They're related to each other, that much is certain.
>>
>>15622954
He included it, but it's spelled "Dagram" for some reason.
>>
>>15622732
>I wouldn't bother going under the 60 episode count
I wasn't going to at first I only did so since FMP, code geass, and fafner are all getting sequels (all with unkown air dates unfortunately)
>>
>>15622607

Does Gundam count as 'longest running' if half of the shows are spinoff AUs that have nothing to do with anything else?

Feels sort of disingenious.
>>
>>15623249
I didn't see the series before so I went back to myanimelist which apparently uses a different spelling compared to the rest of the internet
>>
>>15622614
Medarot has 91 episoes
>>
>>15623253
even if you want to count UC only (have no idea why you want to do that) you would get almost 300 episodes which would still make it the 2nd longest franchise
>>15623260
never heard of that series before I'll add it to the updated list
>>
>>15623219
Time Bokan shows usually have mechs as time-travel machines. So yeah they're /m/ alright.
>>
Star Wars = 264 installments

10 movies (orig trig, prequels, ep7, Rogue 1, two Ewoks movies)
Droids = 13 episodes
Ewoks = 35 episodes
Clone Wars = 25 episodes
The Clone Wars = 121 episodes
Rebels = 59 episodes
+1 Holiday Special

2202 = 7

Harlock.jpg
77KB, 400x500px
The Leijiverse (Harlock, 999, Queen Millennia, etc) has 415 installments

Harlock = 42
Mystery of Arcadia = 1
Gun Frontier = 13
My Youth in Arcadia = 1
Harlock and Millennia = 65
SSX = 22
Emeraldas = 4
Cosmo Warrior Zero = 15
Harlock Ring Saga = 5
Endless Odyssey = 13
CG movie = 1
GX999 = 113 + 2 movies
Eternal Fantasy + Maetel legend = 3
Space Symphony = 13
Queen Millennia - 42 +1 movie
The Cockpit = 3
Galaxy Railways = 56
>>
>>15623726
iirc Mystery of Arcadia is just a random ep of the first series they tossed in a theater, like the early Goranger movies
>>
>>15623653
If we want to mention the western stuff, Trek claims to have 729 (at least, that's what Memory Alpha says):

- 80 episodes of TOS
- 22 episodes of TAS
- 176 episodes of TNG
- 173 episodes of DS9
- 168 episodes of VOY
- 97 episodes of ENT
- 6 TOS movies
- 4 TNG movies
- 3 JJ films

>>
What about the Cardfight! Vanguard franchise? 364 episodes so far (196 for original cast and 168 for G)
>>
>>15623726
harlock and millenia is something real? cuz it seemed to be some wacky edited together show from harlock and queen milenia series..
>>
>>15622607
>8-Robot Romance Trilogy (138 episodes)

There were four of them. Counting the fourth it should be 185.

And if you're counting those, you should be counting the Sunrise Super Robots, which total 163 (23, 40, 50, 50). Not "Series/daitarn/zambot" like what >>15622619 says.

You're also missing the Time Bokans. Which is dumb, because not only are they high on this list, Yatterman as an extension of it could make the top ten (Yatterman, Yatterman 2000s, Yatterman Night).

>>15623958
Speaking of that, do Yugioh and Digimon count? They're always contentious subjects for /m/, so iunno, but...
>>
>>15623984
what's the forth one?
>>15623958
>>15623726

>>15623709

>>15623653
>>15623747
I am not sure if I should make a live action version of the list or not since there are only few franchises that I can think of
>>
>>15624008
Nagahama directed five shows - Raideen (second half), Combattler V, Voltes V, Daimos and Daltanious

Sometimes, people include Raideen and Daltanious, but the connections there are much more tenuous, although Daimos being involved with Voltes and Combattler is already tenuous as is

Fair cop, you're right. I had quite the brainfart, messing that up. Subtracting those 65 eps, it leaves the Leijiverse at about 350. We could add in a few for Interstella 5555 and for Ozma, but I think it's hard to defend including those in the shared universe.
>>
>>15622614
>Godmars (66 episodes)
You forgot the 13 episode Shineseikiden series, and the two-episode Mars OVA
>>
>>15622944

>>
>>15624016

>>
so with Infini-T Force coming out soon should I combine tekkaman/Casshan/Gatchman/Hurricane Polymar into one franchise or should I keep them seperate
>>
>>15624374
I don't think I'd really count those as part of a single franchise since while they are different adaptations of the same manga, God Mars has almost nothing to do with the manga or the series, there's no cross promotion between the two, the Yokoyama estate apparently doesn't own it and different studios worked on it vs the other two, etc.
>>
>>15624783
Because westerners can be retarded too, sometimes.
>>
>>15624783
>>15624931
Also, only Combattler, Voltes and Daimos were viewable in English (subs or corny dub) for the longest time. It's only recently that Daltanious' subs got completed.

Besides, Hasegawa's Victory V/God Bird manga subseries makes the connection much clearer.
>>
>>15624790
I'd say no. They're summoned rather than existing in the same franchise.

>The story of the original manga begins when a girl named Emi uses a pencil that can grant any wish. Emi gets caught up in the robbery of a convenience store, and her life is in danger. She uses the pencil to wish for a "hero that will save everyone." Four heroes appear in response to Emi's wish to change the course of the future.
>>
>>15624783
In the pic in >>15624184 it's refered to as the Robot Romance SERIES. "Trilogy" is an invention by Westerners.
>>
>>15625763
>westerners
You sure? Seems like something we'd get from a Filipino ESL Voltesfag poorly translating an interview. Those are the only kinds of people outside Japan who actually watch these shows anyway. Hell, I don't think I've ever even seen a discussion of Daimos on this board

>Digimon
Digimon had 383 (346 if you don't count Appmon) entries consisting of 369 (332 without Appmon) TV episodes and 14 movies/shorts (4 of which are essentially are a new anime season).
Adventure: 54 episodes, 2 movies (technically there is also the western release Digimon the Movie but we don't speak of that nightmare)
Adventure 02: 50 episodes, 2 movies
Tamers: 51 episodes, 2 movies
Frontier: 50 episodes, 1 movie
Digimon X Evolution: 1 movie
Savers: 48 episodes, 1 movie
Digimon Grand Prix: 1 short
Digimon Xros Wars: 54 episodes
Young Hunters: 25 episodes
Tri: 4 movies (there's two more on the way but I'll only count what's out, these movies are also chopped up into episodes but I'll count them as movies)
Appmon: 37 episodes (ongoing and technically a spin-off but it's a Digimon property)

You said it yourself, they are all different interpretations of the same source material. Just like how Garzey's Wing and Wings of Rean are different interpretations of the Byston Well stories.
>>
>>15628104
It's not specifically a mecha show, it's filled with Kaiju, cyborgs, mecha, robots, etc and all Digimon are artificial intelligence but it's not by classic definition a "mecha show." Of course there are certain semantics that if you classify a story like Astroboy and simplest robot series or anything that doesn't center around giant robots as mecha then arguably you should include Digimon.

Except for Xros Wars, that shit is 100% a mecha show.
