How do we make /m/echa great again?
Simple. Stop making crappy stories.
>>15603162
Ditch the moe crap and go back to the era where hotblooded heroes and war stories is the norm
> if "is a high school student" or anything like that is in the first sentence of your main character's description or story synopsis you can eat a dick
> if you have to put moeshit in your series then the mean-spirited RGZ-style is the only acceptable one
> no, you aren't going to be the next Gundam - stop fucking trying
>>15603522
Worked great for IBO
>>15603539
>IBO
>No moe crap
What're you smoking?
Slice of life /m/ story where the main villain is physics.
>>15603539
Still not enough
To add insult to injury, we don't even like it
>>15603531
> if "is a high school student" or anything like that is in the first sentence of your main character's description or story synopsis you can eat a dick
Build a wall to keep Gaynax dickriders out
Grim, gritty, gruesome war stories devoid of hope. Protagonist is a greying middle-aged war veteran whose family was killed... BY THE WAR. So now all he lives for is fighting. And the WAR. He's also very stoic.
Pilots a slightly customized grunt mecha colored in drab grey. His rival is a psychotic saucer-eyed teenager born with special powers, which our gritty hero overcomes and humiliates every time with his badass experience.

I love that idea
It'd be really fresh from the usual gritty experienced war veteran is a lowly side character gig.
>>15603606
What about Gunbuster?
Gunbuster is cool right?
>>15603617
Please don't give it attention.
>>15603617
Yes, it is.
>>15603522
This. Less waifus. More mecha.
>>15603162
The same way you make every other genre great agin, that is reducing the number of SOL shows with girls leaving room for /m/ shows.
Fantasy was also dead not long ago, the number of cute girls doing cute things reduced a bit and now we have plenty of fantasy. If we manage to reduce it a bit more, that room could be filled with sci-fi
>>15603174
The stories never were that good
>>15603531
> if "is a high school student" or anything like that is in the first sentence of your main character's description or story synopsis you can eat a dick
>>15603539
except felcher gundam sucked
>>15603801
Don't worry Anon, there's still middle and elementary school!
>>15603607
You already have MD Geist. Give others a turn.
>>15603557
So something more like this?
Honestly I didn't finish it, but most of the episodes were regular folks reminding the MC why their giant robot dream can't work in reality. To which the reply was typically why can't our high school club build a working mecha just like in their favorite show.
But given the stuff I saw at college, give them the funding and a decade and I am sure those they could do it.
>>15603531
> if "is a high school student" or anything like that is in the first sentence of your main character's description or story synopsis you can eat a dick
>implying that isn't where half of the hotbloodedness we love come from
>or classics or general stuff that's tolerated using it as a base and turning up fine
>>15603539
IBO was trying to be a downer gritty show, the only true hotblooded guy died and had shit screentime with his cool mecha. On the "villains" the show off went full retard and got killed off at the second to last ep.
is /m/'s scapegoat for everything moe and cgdct
>>15603162
>How do we make /m/echa great again?
Stop being a bunch of homos.
Take a look at SSG... These threads are cancer, they don't even talk about mechs, just the skinny nip fag of the week.
Must go back to /a/ or /lgbt/.
>>15603894
Don't forget Japanese kids, mecha musume, and casuals because "how dare you have different opinions than we do"
>>15603162
mecha+loli
The mecha boom was a product of the Space Race.
We need China to start building giant space rockets so America can compete with them. Then, and only then, will we get Royal Space Force 2.
>>15603607
>it's an "/m/ describes their dream series which always happens to be edgy sonic oc tier garbage"
>>15603557
>Slice of life /m/ story where the main villain is physics.
The early parts anyway
>>15603162
Main problem with mecha nowadays as I see it is that it's full of a bunch of masturbatory, self-indulgent directors and cheapass studios that use cartoons to scam/launder money/insert other shady activity here.
To work, mecha shows need a budget and they need to stop trying stupid shit with their plots and stick to what works. Occasionally there are some new ideas that work alright like with Gun X Sword, but that worked because it kept things simple and put a fair amount of emphasis on action
>>15604403
You don't even need budget, just fucking passion which you won't get since tons of shit these days is done-by-committee as fuck.
We need a new super robot revival.
Mecha shows these days are either too gritty or too kiddie.
>>15604419
This, stuff like Gaiking LODM showed that you don't even need budget to have a neat tone and story.
>>15606258
Agreed, but keep it to children.
>>15603831
Uso Ewin?
>>15604316
A mecha for ants? Impossible!
