I thought Shining Heresy was mostly boring and pointless, well it did one thing right. I got frustrated with the OVAs portrayal of Fyana since in the show she was competent on a level with Chirico and Epsilon. Yet in the OVAs it's like they forgot she was a pilot at all, thankfully Shining Heresy put an end to that shit and just definitively ended that.

It had some good animation and decent action toward the end but really that's all it has going for it. It's meh like everything Votoms that isn't the TV series.

Shining Heresy is a result of that shitty 90's "post script sequel" trend where a once popular IP was given a sequel or reboot but in an edgy, incoherent way that disrespects the original work. Usually these OVAs or shows take place in the same universe of the original but with other set of characters with extremely loose connection to the source work. Examples: Tales of Neo Byston Well, Lamune Fire and Lamune Fresh, Cutey Honey, Nadesico PoD, Dragon Ball GT and to a lesser extent Tekkaman Blade. There were a ton of them.
