Can I get into new(recent) Gundam series, if I only watched G

I know this is hard to believe, but you can watch any entry in the gundam franchise and you will be able to follow it. Well the start of ZZ & Destiny would be a bit rough but aside from that anything.

Yep, except Unicorn. I mean, you could watch it, but you'll miss out on a lot of stuff.

Sure. Most new Gundam series are new universes without continuity with previous series. The exceptions are obvious (Gundam Build Fighters to Build Fighters Try for example) and the OVAs, which tend to be set in the original Gundam UC universe.

Even the works set in old universes tend to have stories that are accessible for new viewers.

The best start is 0079 TV, but I can tell you don't want to watch an anime made in the very late 70's. UC probably isn't for you the 3/4 of the core parts of it were maid in the 80's. Personally do what ever you want. It really doesn't matter in the least. I know it's sacrlidge on /m/ but I watched chronological order when I first went through. Most people say you should watch in production order. Personally I say play around. Watch a UC series then Watch an AU series. I really recommend doing this after zeta.

now I have decided to go back to zeta and finish the series by production order. I am thinking of rewatching some of the stuff that I have already seen since some blu-rays came out

The absolute best way to watch anything is to start from the very first entry and work your way to the most recent. It's not exactly rocket science

as for Origin in particular, it is best to watch the original 1979 Gundam first, it deviates from the original and also pays homage to other series and bits of Gundam lore

The newer gundam entries aren't even really worth your time anyway(G Reconguista, AGE, Iron Blooded Orphans, Build Fighters). Thunderbolt is alright I guess
