No one was really "throwing themselves" on him. The only women without maternal instincts were the Executioner woman, the black haired woman,and Katejina and they tried to kill him at some point, and were evil.

The whole show has an incredibly strong and nuanced male/female dynamic and undertones you don't see in any other Gundam or mecha show, it goes over a lot of people's head like most things Victory.
