The last CG one was mostly okay, I guess I'll give this a shot.

Casper van Dien is voicing Rico this time. Dina Meyer's back as Dizzy.

As long as they actually hired a writer this time around, I'm sold. I think the ST cartoon universe has a lot of potential.
>>
>>15591584
Whatever makes money I guess
>>
>>15591582
Okay, that trailer looks bad. But, Starship Troopers: Invasion was, is, and shall remain my shit and I'm hyped for a sequel to it anyway.

Any tits?
>>
>>15591716
Every single female character in Invasion had a nude scene, so highly likely. Yes.
>>
>>15591654
They got Edward Neumeier who wrote the original films.

>>15591708
Same here. If the rumored ST reboot never takes off I'll be happy with more animated movies like this instead.

i'm glad we are getting more Punished Rico vs Bugs.
Also like how the film is going with the fall of earth angle like Roughneck Chronicles.
Plus is that blonde kick on the poster alluded to be a Diz Flores hallucination or a new char with a mobile infantry tattoo???

the trailer looks pretty shit, but i'm officially stoked. I liked Invasion as it's the only sequel to the 1997 film that's worth a damn.

Also,

I hope they have a fuck scene and Rico finally gives up chasing that Carmen slut that was never going to fuck him anyway.

My guess is that it's a hallucination and playing the old "reflection of the psyche" trope
>>
>>15591716
Probably. CGI tits, but still...

All the ST movies so far have had a topless woman in them.
>>
>>15593202
She could be a clone, or R&D pulled some Universal Soldier shit to revive her.
>>
>>15591725
I honestly wouldn't want a reboot. Especially with the rumours of it being more true to the original book which sounds downright boring.

There probably would never be another good live-action movie ever again. Yes, the sequels sucked, but you have to remember that the only reason why the first film was made was because Verhoeven was on a roll and was able to secure a sizeable budget after notably heading other sci-fi movies like Robocop and Total Recall. Even his poorly-reviewed Showgirls was extremely popular on home video.

I think that the CGI DTV releases is the way to go. Besides the drab coloring/lighting and somewhat stiff faces, Invasion was pretty good from an animation stand point. The imagery and action was far and away better than anything we ever saw in the live-action sequels.

Plus in animation they could pull off things that might be too expensive to film like power suits, drop pods, and other lifeforms from the book like neodogs and Skinnies.

Power armor and aesthetics closer to the book than movies

facinating

Universal is rebooting a movie series for this too.
>>
>>15591582

Id be fucking glad if universal could revive and re-release a remastered edition of the Roghnecks, SS Animated series, that shit was pure gold, manly because verhoeven followed the book and fixed some flaws and designs of it

and he even fucking used some shit from the OVA that Sunrise Tomino did

>>
>>15594270
Roughnecks was one of my favorite shows growing up. The CG looks a little dated now but you could tell they put a lot of effort into it, and the writing still holds up pretty well.
>>
So, how many people on /m/ have actually read the original novel despite it being rather influential in military sci-fi, especially with the powersuits. I was shocked to see how different the book was from the movie, I know Verhooven hated it and felt it was facist garbage, but it was interesting seeing how little of the book dealt with actual combat and how long he was in training. I won't go into the politics and I don't want to have yet another political shit show on /m/, but it is interesting seeing how Heinlein was rather philosophical in his works and I wonder how common that was for early sci-fi, I know Asimov could be philosophical too, but I don't know if they were the rule or the exception, as well, he is evidently far more philosophical in his writing (most of the book is dedicated to talking about the moral philosophy behind the government in his setting). Now, how would you feel about an adaptation that plays it completely straight as opposed to how the movie portrayed it?
>>
>>15594729
I'd love a straight adaptation.
Also, if I recall, Verhoven never even read past the first chpater.
>>
>>15594649
I really liked Roughnecks.

SST is considered Heinlein's foray into philosophical stuff and blatant i.e. not so subtle expositions on what he thought about social norms and taboos. With strangers in a strange land, he totally shifted to espousing his personal philosophy on sex, marriage, society, individualism and other libertarian ideals.
Along with the moon is a harsh mistress, the 3 novels are mandatory read in order to realize heinlein's ability to think about subjects in a vast spectrum. His short stories and juveniles are from the golden age of sci fi explored more sci fi ideas.
>>
>>15594729
I don't know if a straight adaption would work really, there isn't actually much of a "story" to Starship Troopers. It's a lot of preaching with some battles in-between.
>>
>>15594744

you know that verhoeven read it later to do Roughnecks series and Sunrise OVA as >>15594270 stated right?

The Series was far miles better than everything that came up after the 1st movie
>>
>>15594729
>Now, how would you feel about an adaptation that plays it completely straight as opposed to how the movie portrayed it?

I always got a Forrest gump vibe from the novel, it would basically look like that with some figures talking about some socio political stuff randomly that make no sense apart from those dealing with Rico feeling a sense of belongingness wirh the Mobile infantry. It amazing that it kind of work out well while reading the novel.
>>
>>15594811
Fuck

He read the book and then saw the OVA after the 1st movie to do Roughnecks.

after they came to earth you see how the SICON starts to act like the book, with they hiding the Bugs infestation on earth itself rom the general public

the series pretty much ends with mankind discovering it, and the queen summoning the remaining forces to earth, ending on the same cliffhanger as the book, as rico and the rest goes to face the bugs in a final battle.
>>
>>15594793
You could make it all action with some philosophy in-between. Like Rico and friends ponder their careers and what it means to be a citizen over lunch, then the alarm sounds and it's time to drop. Boot camp scenes can be done in flashbacks.

I'd play it straighter than Verhoeven's movie but a few "Would you like to know more?" commercials for laughs wouldn't hurt.

What are some worthwhile novels of Heinlein apart from the 3 you mentioned?
>>
>>15594729
>Now, how would you feel about an adaptation that plays it completely straight as opposed to how the movie portrayed it?

Boring and it would be a terrible idea. What people don't seem to get about movie/book adaptations is that film and novels are two very different media for telling stories. What works for one does not necessarily translate well from one to the other.

I saw the movies, the show, and the anime first so when I got around to reading the book itself, I was bored to tears. There were like two real action sequences and the other 90% of the book was Rico in some kind of training or school of some sort or another. Even the OVA was more vibrant and better paced than the source material.

If you want the book's story, then just read the book. There's no point in trying to make a straight adaptation of it.

I worked on the mobile game for the last movie that Sony put out.

It took forever, was put together with gum and nuts, and man does everybody hate indie publishers -- up to and including the assholes at wikipedia who wouldn't let us list it even though it's tied into the movie's plot on some transmedia shit -- but it got done.

Later I interviewed with a network in Burbank and a shoe-gazing VP sneered at me for working on something related to the movie. "I only like the book."

I'm now a by-default fan of anything in the series, just to spite that cock.

Thinking a book needs more action scenes to "improve it" when its not about the action is the definition of brainlet, retard.
