I want chess-themed robot enemies to replace the Noise

Have them do something super horrible like bomb a concert full of innocent bystanders so that Hibiki and crew have a reason to not hold back because they know their enemy isn't either.

There's no reason to disbelieve what the show tells you when it doesn't present any cinflicting evidence. If they wanted to cast a shadow of a doubt over Tsubasa's story they would've put something else in there.

Tsubasa is the least likely to die because this whole thing is run on Nanadollars

Chris is in a similar situation since Ayahi does the ED themes, but her character hasn't grown as much since G compared to Tsubasa's

Maria still has potential, but her dying would leave some impact on the DMJii for them to grow.

But then again, having Shirabe or Kirika die not only affects the main cast the most outside of Hibiki, but would also have the surviving DMJii have to find some new resolve with the other half being gone.

Kanade and Serena both died in episode 1 and before the main plot of the show. Their deaths hanged heavily over Tsubasa and Maria respectively and were important to their character arcs which lasted through most of the season. Does anyone actually believe that they could handle killing somebody off in the middle of the season and have the characters deal with this and the enemy in a satisfying. Everyone keeps on talking about how the fights need stakes but with only thirteen episodes unless they want to kill of the cast and replace them it's pretty obvious that the heroes are going to win. At this point having someone die would just feel cheap.
