Their following the same method they released the first one. 2199 was released in theaters and as OVAs and it wasn't until like a year later before they adapted it to TV format.

As good as two starting episodes can be. The political premise is intriguing but the cast starts reuniting during the second half of ep2. A lot of criticism is unwarranted atm. Yeah, you can nitpick to death the battle at the start of ep1, but it's a serviceable grunt spaceship battle.
