Pilot suit thread
Don't care much for Wing but the space suits are pretty cool and practical looking.
>>15582639
Bonus feature: Imperial Valkyrie pilot, which is almost impossible to find more than two or three images.
>>15582622
wing had a shitload of space suit designs, the last one looking like an NGE skinsuit, mixed with fallout vault suit, with the upper body plate.
Pacific Rim had some great 3d suits.
VOTOMS soon, comrade!
>>15582622
Gundam in general has pretty good suits
Whatever one has a space diaper so I can piss my pants.
>>15582622
izubuchi did such a fucking amazing job at wing's costumes, specially the normal suits
>>15583199
Yeah those bottom left suits are cool. Even have plug-in for oxygen hose it looks like
>>15583421
I like how some of them look like regular astronaut suits and pressurized flight suits, kinda like bottom left and >>15582622
>>15583462
yeah that looks to be as close to realistic as it would get, if the ms cockpits weren't pressurized. just needs a handheld o2 tanks for eva
Always did love ORB's pilot suits in SEED, but not the ones in Destiny. It's the simplicity.

the last one and the female OZ one is like >>15582716 said its a good mix of good ol space suit + Fallout vault suit, which is 2 years before Fo1 was released
in fact, wing may be the last gundam series to follow the UC way of Space suits
>>15584145
>>15584378
So is this like Godannar?
>>15585012
It's an anime adaptation of Super robot wars. So kind of.
>>15583199
Wait
OZ has some sort of Tinman insignia?
What the fuck was with the Wizard of Oz thing? And while we're at it what was with the numbers naming scheme which they never really did anything with.
>>15585243
In episode 34, one OZ officer has the callsign of "scarecrow 5".
The number naming scheme wasn't for any reason other than just as a general theme. I mean, OZ generally had their MS named after zodiac signs, but it wasn't consistent either and didn't mean anything.
>>15583199
These fucking details is one of the reason why I would have liked some animated spin off in the AC universe. Also the Colony design was one of best of all Gundam universes.
>>15582913
I really like the wetsuit under the bigger suit. makes sense for some reason.

Sorry for it being fanart but I couldn't find a clear image of the crossbone pilot suit that wasn't cluttered with text, had shit quality or was the white version Tobia used early on.

ARZENAL PLANNING MEETING
>guys we can save money if we replace the lower half of the flight suit with chaps and speedos
>but it's an all female squadron
>yes, and?
Obligatory.
All these ridiculously /fit/ pilots with the right body type for the outfit reminds me of a kind of parody of a Fafner-like scenario I wrote where the plain, boring girl of the class realises she hasn't got a clue how to put on the fancy pilot suit and ends up looking utterly ridiculous and like a bad cosplayer because she's got a "normal" build.
Because heaven knows I've seen enough Asuka cosplays at cons to know how ill suited some body types are to that kind of outfit
>>15592606
I mean it makes sense pilots need such perfectly sculpted bodies, you need to be in good shape to pilot a jet. In fact that's something I always liked about Getter that they point out you need to be in ridiculously good shape to not flat out die while piloting a Getter machine due to the ridiculous speeds it can move at.
I love all Getter pilot suits, even Musashi and Benkei's goofy suits, but probably the New Getter iterations were the best. I am always torn choosing between Ryoma and Hayato's pilot suits when deciding my favorite.
>>15592654
Yeah, it was cool to see a detail like that in such an early work. Even fit fighter pilots in the real world run the risk of completely wrecking their bodies if they push their machines too hard.
>>15593041
Shin Getter was so powerful that on the test flight when it neared it's maximum velocity it stopped Ryoma's heart despite him being in a harness meant to dampen G force as much as physically possible.
I always was a fan that Getter actually had good reasons for why the pilots wouldn't just be military pilots.
Back to the subject of pilot suits I also love the Go team suits.
>>15582913
That looks like it would feel pretty comfy. Like walking around in a marshmallow.
>>15582591
>>15592654
>I mean it makes sense pilots need such perfectly sculpted bodies, you need to be in good shape to pilot a jet.
This is why the "hey, random kids, you pilot a robot now" is so odd a thing
at least in fafner the clumsy and slow ones get ARE YOU THERE'd
>>15592654
>I mean it makes sense pilots need such perfectly sculpted bodies, you need to be in good shape to pilot a jet.
Reminds me of Voltes V's leads having gotten combat training for years without being informed about the incoming Boazanian invasion.
That said, G Gundam has being super-fit as a requirement for piloting Mobile Fighters.

It's a big step down to the awful ones they are wearing now that best case are going to be CG'ed over and worst case will look like a party city version of the original. Pacific Rim without Del Taco, one of the only people who wants to use practical suits/effects/stages whenever possible, looks so boring and lifeless.
Ya know, I really didn't like Kabuto Kouji's pilot suit at first and thought it looked dumb. But over time it really grew on me and it's now one of if not my favorite pilot suit.
Anyone else start off not liking a suit but ended up loving it?
>>15595783
I like that rendering of it.
I think it could do without the idiotic pointy helmet fins but it's fine otherwise.
>>15594778
>>15597807
The seams, padding, color saturation, and minor detail changes is why the Zero version of that suit goes from great to possibly my favorite.
I used to hate his horned helmet but it grew on me, especially when it gets thinner rather than staying more fat along the horns. I think the Toei version of the helmet is probably the worst.
>>15597803
Faggot, Haman Saman doesn't wear spacesuits.
>ywn be this /fa/
Just letting people know that I can justify high-cut swimsuit becoming realistic (female) pilot-suit in a hard-SF Space-Age future.I'm strangely proud of that
>>15599562
Want to share with the rest of the class, your reasoning?
>>15594772
same shit ripped off from wing-5 suits
>>15599572
Misplaced my copy pasta, but :
(we assume that crew stay 50% human, not digitalized, with mostly genetic-mod/prosthetic)
- mass is critical for space travel, so you want light & minimalist clothe,
(you only need them for comfort, displaying information, maybe social reason)
- pressurized space is not cheap, so no 3meter wide corridor, you don't want clothes that get caught in stuff.
- you want to reduce logistic, so only one material, preferably a smart one that can adapt/color/repair/clean itself
- ideally you don't want pocket (it's limited in space and things float in), you want separate container and/or straps.
- you don't need nor want to wear a fragile/airtight space-rated environmental suit all the time, it would damage them for no real benefit, anything capable of causing sudden depressurizing would kill you anyway
(plus spaceship/station will have controlled temperature)
- but you need to be able to jump into one as fast as possible, so a suit that goes well under or can be taken off fast
- even in a mecha/fighter you don't want clunky spacesuit, a cockpit is pressurized. Just keep one stored if you really need too
(a space-suit is basically the smallest spaceship)
Said space-swimsuit need to be shaped to account for :
- interface with other equipments & interfaces
- potential cybernetic implant in the backbone (open back)
- potential prosthetic leg/arms (high-cut)
- protection isn't needed but make it easy to see any health problem
- smooth surface to ease clean up
- compatibility with water environment. Water is practical for radiation shielding, long travel will require large quantity of water, many use can be found for it.
Thus, it is logicalfor female space pilot-suit to follow a popular fetish

It reminds me of the time I watched Bokurano because I thought it was gonna be a relaxing SoL show about kids saving the earth in their giant mecha buddy.
>>15610946
I can only guess that Radix hired the character designer because they couldn't afford anyone else at the time. Either that, or they wanted something to attract attention so that the viewers wouldn't tune out.

> I thought it was gonna be a relaxing SoL show about kids saving the earth in their giant mecha buddy
When it comes to Mohiro Kitoh works, never assume that it'll be entirely happy until proven otherwise. The anime's director even went out of his way to ignore the manga's actual ending.

My fucking ningen.
How about some OC suit design?
http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/spacesuits.php#id--Skintight_Suits
>To recap, Skintight Suits:
>*Must have lower pressure than the habitat module or the wearer cannot empty their lungs. This means the wearer needs an hour of pre-breathing or they will suffer the Bends. Higher pressure also increases the risk of catastrophic failure of the helmet, i.e., shooting off like a champagne cork and killing the wearer.
>*In case of emergency, when there is no time for pre-breathing, NASA helpfully directs the astronauts to gulp aspirin, so they can work in spite of the agonizing pain
>*The breathing mix will be close to pure oxygen, with a higher fire risk.
>*Suit encumbrance only increases the energy cost to do various tasks by +20%, compared to the +400% of soft suits and the astronomical increase of hard-shell suits.
>*Suit punctures result in bruises on the wearer's skin, instead of certain death.
>*Skintight suits are the most inexpensive of all the space suits, about $60,000 US in 2005 dollars.
>*It tends to grab male wearers uncomfortably in the crotch.
>The original concept was created by Dr. Paul Webb in 1968. It is currently being developed by Dr. Darva Newman at MIT, under the name "Bio-Suit".
>A skin-tight suit of high tech cloth exerts pressure over the rocketeer's body to provide pressure. A bubble helmet with oxygen supply allows one to breathe. Open pores in the suit actually allow the body to be cooled by perspiration. Tears will cause bruising to the skin, but are not as lethal as they are on a conventional suit. The suit can be quickly put on. They do not interfere as much with movement (+20% energy expenditure, compared with +400% for a NASA suit). And you can store them by folding them up and putting them inside the bubble helmet. The back pack is still bulky, though.
(1/2)
>>15615329
>They do need some care in design, though. Any concave areas on the body that the suit does not hug will bulge out under internal body pressure until it fills the void (i.e., your armpits will become armhills). Putty or fluid filled bladders will be needed to prevent this. Care must be taken around those nether regions, the small of the back, and in certain locations of the female chest. Male wearers will need a rather sophisticated cup to cover the genitals. Even with the cup, the suit will tend to grab male wearers uncomfortably in the crotch.
>And upon entering vacuum, one will have an instant attack of dire flatulence (aka High-altitude flatus expulsion or HAFE). Don't be polite, let it out right away or you may damage your intestines.

>>15620432
I enjoyed it quite a lot and found it refreshingly grounded with a full military unit that are all useful, with a methodical pace. Others found it dull and plodding.
I say watch it and decide for yourself. Try to stick around for at least five episodes, the MC drops most his generic protagonistisms like disobeying orders after the first three episodes, and the show starts to find its feet after the first few episodes.
And the Argevollen itself looks better in motion, so don't dismiss it immediately. It has grown on me a lot after I thought it was garbage the first time I saw it.
How can they ever top these?
>>15620432

>>15620475
It's a shame, but it could be worse.
And honestly I'll take not-completely-awful CG over shoestring-budget 2D, because at least one of them can afford motion instead of a few stills awkwardly shuffling around. In a show about ground combat, it's the lesser of two evils.

Don't worry it is not planned in any story, though I did participated to a /m/ writing thread and made a context where said female space-swimsuit are needed to save Mankind's galactic Federation.
