Basically SRW games don't turn Shinn into Durandal's brain-dead rabid dog and they actually call out Kira on his actions and how it does more harm than good.

The most recent SRW V takes place after Destiny and massively improves on Shinn by actually making him the most responsable and mature of the three main Destiny pilots due to him wanting to fix his past mistakes.

It basically takes Shinn from GSD and rounds out his ages, giving him a character, a purpose, and his decision to follow Durandal to the very end, even if he's not entirely sure about the Destiny Plan is instilled throughout the game rather than dumped on at the end.

And more importantly, he has something that was missing in the series, an actual supporting cast! Have you noticed that on the Minerva, up until the new cast is thrown aside, that the characters on the ship hardly if not ever hang out with each other?

Well, here they do, and outside of that, you have cast members from other shows to reflect on. For example, in the series, Athrun doesn't really do much of good job in trying to lead people. Instead, Shinn has Quattro and/or Amuro to count on instead.

For example, when Shinn is about to kill the Zamah-Zah pilots when they're running away, he gets stopped by Amuro who says that killing them while they're not willing to fight anymore is just murder.

Also, he's friends with Kamille, and they often compare and contrast the characters

Angry? Scared? A whirlwind of emotions would haunt me for years. The death of my friend still does. Saw his head smash into the dashboard when we crashed. Not nearly as gruesome as seeing your sister torn apart and I'm still fucked up over it.

Not really. I'd probably stop crying myself to sleep at some point in my life but it would still haunt me for years. Eventually I'll develop a little sister complex and meet a young submissive woman who would satisfy that. Even after finally finding happiness, I'd still hear my sister's voice as we make love. I'll die with that severed arm still in my thoughts.

I have a hard time sympathizing with coordinators.
