The IDW books have some fun arcs but when it's bad it's terrible. The awful romances show a complete failure with priority and context. Transformers, at its core, is about good and evil and adventure. It's not a very good medium for soapy relationship drama, and it comes off as fanfiction-esque.

Is IDW the worst Transformers fictional universe now? I remember it used to be ok to mediocre, usually just doing a terrible job at wrapping up story lines and events, but with all the Windblade mary sue shit and boys love overtones, it just feels like fanfiction now.

If we go by the G1 cartoon origin, it'd actually make sense to have females. Since the Transformers were simply products. Given that the majority of aliens in the cartoon seem to be giant humanoids, it'd make sense for the robot slaves to be mostly giant humanoids too. And since the aliens presumably have genders, it'd make sense to make your robots appear masculine/feminine, to fit in with the aesthetic of your customers.

Procreation through sex wouldn't be necessary under such a premise. They could reproduce provided they could build new bodies and install or create new AI to those bodies, which was what actually happened in the cartoon.

It seems weird to pander towards this demographic for transformers. I'm not saying they don't deserve a bone throne their way but the way I see it, Transformers fans come in three types. Having explicit romantic overtones feels like it would alienate children and toy collectors while only potentially appealing to some of those who are in for the fiction. I just thought Hasbro would be more intent on gaining a larger audience with their main comic tie-in. If they want to appeal to people who like this sort of thing, you think it would be more subtle and less obstructive, not the main focus and a plot point.

Transformers have been having sex since the 90s when at least half of Rattrap's lines in Beast Wars were some kind of innuendo.

Note also that Beast Wars actually had several female Transformers in the main cast, so we got a few hetero romances because there were actually a decent number of girls around to have them with. When you go back to G1, which is what everyone wants to see more of, the only way you're going to get more than two female Transformers is by creating them wholecloth like with Windblade, and then people get pissed that you're shoving your original characters into muh G1. Gay Transformers is the inevitable consequence of it being a boys-only club for so long.

Dreamwave had some good arcs. War Within and War and Peace(though it wasn't well drawn), off the top of my head. The "G1 Ongoing" was interesting too until it got axed.

The Combaticons were already interesting. They had a good rapport between each member. Go play Fall of Cybertron, there's a whole section about this.
Don't change things that are working, and if you're going to shine the spotlight on a combiner, make it one of the more obscure ones that don't get any time to shine.

That was something the IDW comic was really good at in the beginning. When they started shoehorning romance elements into a story that really didn't need or benefit from them is when the MTMTE series started to lose my interest. I enjoyed the comic because it highlighted characters you don't see often (mah nigga Pipes) and it had interesting character interactions between the crew, but when they made certain characters couples they tended to spend way too many pages per issue on them.
Additionally, the way it's presented comes across as pandering because it's very much shown as "LOOK AT HOW PROGRESSIVE WE ARE! WE HAVE GAY CHARACTERS!"
Also, alien robots that don't reproduce sexually having romantic relationships is just generally dumb IMO.

The orientation being the same in both panels would mean she either took SEVERAL steps to walk behind him and Starscream followed too, or Windblade turned 180° and Starscream walked around her in order to join in yelling at Rattrap. Both of these don't exactly convey the sudden break in the argument to tell at him the artist clearly wanted, it's an art goof.

After Megatron joined the Autobots, Soundwave threw in with Galvatron to build a new, peaceful society for Decepticons and Autobots that renounced Optimus Prime. Galvatron betrayed him, and Optimus used blackmail to get him to join his side. Meanwhile, Ravage died on a far off planet and Soundwave felt it back on Earth. After some near-death adventures Soundwave sincerely joined Optimus in his efforts and acts as his second-in-command. He's buddies with Cosmos.
