Just finished Heisei Generations.

I actually liked Ghost in this, but his presence illustrated a major issue with the show for me.

Why does Takeru actually DO anything? Even when he has to come back to life, that doesn't feel like a passion of his. In the movie, there's no reason for him doing anything until he and Akari are infected. I don't blame Shun Nishime, but even with a different writer, they couldn't make the poor kid compelling.

Robobot is good, but for Mega Man X it was one of the defining features in the X series which helped demonstrate buyers of the next generation how Mega Man has "evolved" in terms of a game. I'd say Ride Armor is more significant among the classics in the platformer genre. I'd say it's a mixed reference like most things are in Ex-Aid. A little bit of this and a little bit of that.

Also they're call "Ride Armor" even in Japanese and Maximum Mighty X is abbreviated to MMX. Seems like an obvious reference grab for them to take.

The original Rider Armors aren't that different in proportion, really. Though that is why I considered it a mixed reference. Robobot helps blend it together aesthetically with the more Kirby-based Might Action X and tie it into the Level 1 gimmick nobody really cares about anymore. The Mighty armor doesn't really copy and exaggerate others' abilities. It just dashes around and hits hard, which is more like a standard Ride Armor.

I doubt Bandai didn't have Mega Man X fondly in mind when making Maximum Mighty X. Along with being a classic, Mega Man X also has a history with Bandai through the popular Mega Armor model kits. A line they're reviving as the Giga Armor series now in 2017, even.

I doubt anything in Ex-Aid is a completely direct reference, it's pretty clearly that all the games are based on a culmination of the ideas you find in their genres. I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking at Megaman and Robobot when coming up with MMX as well as a bunch of other mecha games probably but there's no way they mean to reference any one of them specifically.

Working on a Rider inspired project and need some help choosing a few things.

The idea is "boxers" based on different animals and martial arts and later stronger more "Kaijin" like fighters appear.
Originally I wanted the "Kaijin" boxers/fighters to be based around the Four Symbols(Chinese), but the more I've been playing with the idea the more I've wanted to mix different cultures together, but then I feel conflicted towards the idea for feeling too convoluted.


Finished 4 different drafts for a story and wanted to see which appealed more, So here are three ideas I had:

>Mixture of the The Four Symbols/Chinese creatures and Greek Monsters.
>Leader: Phoenix, General: Quilin (Mix of Dragon/Tiger), General/Muscle: Cerberus, Rogue: Chimera

>Simply adding more "normal" animal fighters for a more grounded story.
>Animals based around Countries and themes (Example: Savate Frog, Muay Thai Spider)

Because Takeru's got a messiah complex as the only aspect of his otherwise "comparable to stale bread" personality and every time he's brought back, it's basically a "reward" for all the good he does and his MUGEN NO KANNOUSEI. Also he narrates to us about the fact he died EVERY FUCKING EPISODE FOR 50 EPISODES.

Meanwhile, Ryo never gets a fucking break. Both times you think his resurrection will make his death the very last time he suffers - and of those two resurrections, one was a serious plot point for another character entirely - but instead everything gets worse. Whereas Takeru is REWARDED every time he revives, Ryo is punished. Everything in his life gets worse as the show goes on, and every death increases the suffering exponentially. For fuck's sakes, he gets a puppy as a reward for all the torture he went through and it dies the day after he gets it! Ghost has A LOT of issues, so when people talk about it, of course they'll have a lot to say, unlike Faiz or Den-O, where even though a fair amount consider it bad, it all boils down to "Misunderstanding" or "They don't fucking communicate", or in Den-O's case "Its all filler!" or "Wheres the fucking plot?!"

Faiz has one major issue, Kiva and Wizard have a bunch of smaller issues that kill it in the long run, but Ghost has a lot of big issues
