In the first X game, the intro sequence going over X's specs indicates that the crystal on X's forehead holds advanced camera systems. Presumably those are auxiliary and meant to assist with high-accuracy long-ranged strikes, since it's clear from other material that his eyes *do* seem to do something.

In Zero's case, since Zero is highly focused on CCQ, he may have additional180 degree panoramic camera systems there to assist with attacks coming in from all kinds of angles when taking on entire groups of foes?

That's actually the in-world explanation as well. X originally was not designed as a war machine, but as a robotics experiment; an AI with actual free will, able to forge his own path in life and live freely amongst humanity. Having a human face would assist with his interactions.

The first game's armor capsule holding the dash upgrade literally tells you that Light's armor capsules were left behind as an insurance policy incase the world would ever need a new hero like Rock to rise up again. His base form was built to be adaptive and with limited offensive capabilities. Just enough to get by for self-defense. (Which makes you wonder what level of power Light expected the common lynch mob to wield in future times...)

That's the whole point. Light's robots were his children, and X in particular was supposed to be indistinguishable from a human in his ability to think and make decisions. The human face makes the prototype Robot Masters more relatable, since they were designed to interact directly with humans unlike the later models who were designed for industrial work, and in Reploids the human-like face makes them appear human. Zero has a human-like face because Wily wanted to show that anything Light could do, he could do better.

But I will say this new one looks like it has better color choices. Can't say the same about the optional armor though.

Zero was a failure. Wily intended for Zero to be his magnum opus, but a flaw in his programming turned him into a mindless berserker. The main issue was that Zero refused to listen to Wily's orders. Thus, Wily ended up sealing Zero away.

Most of that comes from the posing. The 1st is ramrod straight, the Truforce is posed in a slight S shape. Hips and head forward, abs and legs back. Pretty simple way to make something look dynamic.

The Truforce was one thing, it was an april fools joke turned into a crowd funded project due to interest. It having an original design made some sense. But making a whole new chogokin mass release chogokin with made up gimmicks seems kind of weird, when they are so many existing X armors that should be made.
