>Seven Seas Entertainment is proud to announce the license acquisition of the original Captain Harlock manga series, the genre-defining space opera by manga legend Leiji Matsumoto featuring one of the most revered characters in science fiction history!

>“Publishing this archetypal series, which is now celebrating its 40th anniversary, is a real privilege,” says Seven Seas publisher Jason DeAngelis. “Everyone knows who Captain Harlock is from all the books, anime, and films about him–but until now, Leiji Matsumoto’s original manga wasn’t available in North America. We’re thrilled to finally bring this blockbuster to its longtime fans and give the manga itself the VIP treatment it deserves.”

>Seven Seas will publish the Captain Harlock: The Classic Collection manga series for the first time in North America in print as two large trim hardcover omnibus editions. Volume 1 will be released on April 24, 2018 for $24.99 USA / $28.99 CAN.

Meh.
>>
>>15565177
>Meh.

Is the manga really that bad ?
>>
>>15565180
What it covers is better than the anime, imo.
>>
>>15565180
Yes.

>>15565182
Shitty opinion.
>>
>>15565189
That's wrong but ok
>>
>>15565180
Dunno. I already forgot everything about it.
>>
>>15565182
It's the same fucking shit. Both are mediocre at best.
>>
>>15565204
It's pretty different though?
The first part of the TV series is pretty focused on Harlock making trips back to earth to see the loli. She's not in the manga so it's more focused on space adventures from the very start.
>>
>Harlock
It's alright, but I'd rather have Galaxy Express, Queen Millennia, or some of Leiji's non sci-fi stuff.
>>
I should re-up that old Great Harlock comic that ran on the web twenty years ago.

I wish I could get into Matsumoto stuff but I can't get over this fucking face and he keeps reusing it. It's the worst cartoon character design of all time.

You clearly haven't read Masahiko Matsumoto's stuff then, since his faces are even weirder.
>>
>>15565413
>Masahiko Matsumoto
At least he seems to have some kinda uniformity in his designs. Meanwhile Leiji has characters like Harlock and Maetel stand around next to characters like Tetsuro.

Be sure to avoid Nagai, Tezuka, Shigeru Mizuki, and Ishinomori if weird and re-used character designs bother you.
>>
>>15565208
And it's shit. Fucking nothing happens. Most pointless manga I've read.
>>
>>15565685
Those are not that bad in terms of cartoony character design. Leiji is much worse.
>>
>>15566571
They all basically do the same thing. Especially Mizuki.
>>
>>15565180
No, the problem is that the manga is really good, it raises lots of questions all the time, you can see it is going to a place and then it just stops, the ending left me really mad and holy fuck I am accustomed to shitty endings like the ones of Go Nagai.

After that I will never invest myself in the same way I did before, I will always doubt the endings.
>>
>>15566650
>No, the problem is that the manga is really good,

That's a gross exaggeration right here.

>Devil Man, Harlock and many more niche titles getting released in western English speaking countries like never before

I don't know who to thank but I love this timeline. Absolutely love the amount of series we've been getting in English over the past decade.

"We're gonna be releasing this manga for the first time in the US.... in another year."

Literally what is the fucking point? It's a whole year from now, I'm gonna forget this even exist until one of you faggots shits on it in like 2 years from now.

How are Nagai's human designs "weird" compared to the ugly chimps and anorexic looking women from Matsumoto's manga?

I don't know much about about Matsumoto's character designs, but from what I've seen of Nagai, they actually vary quite a lot.

If you're gonna complain about reusing character designs, have a look at Mitsuru Adachi's stuff.

He has kind of a Star System kind of deal with some minor characters but it's mostly related to cameos than anything else.
Just think of how many times you've seen pic related or the grandpa from Cutie Honey in his works. Some of his other characters are really similar as well (a random example, that girl that gets kidnapped all the time in Cutie Honey and MC's friend's girlfriend in Shameless School); it's normal considering just how many works Nagai has produced, yes, but I feel like it's disingenuous saying that is not the case at all.

But to the degree he does it is grossly exaggerated. Too many authors pass before him on that criteria.

Hige Gojira has a unique design, and you know what, I can tell Yamagishi from Kouji Kabuto, from Akira Fudou, from Honey Kisaragi, from Violence Jack.

Some would say they suffer same face, but same face is not a problem. They're all drawn in the author's style, so it's obvious they're gonna share same facial traits. Nearly all famous authors do this; Kurumada, Toriyama, Kajiwara, Adachi etc.

>How are Nagai's human designs "weird" compared to the ugly chimps and anorexic looking women from Matsumoto's manga?

Have you never read his comedy manga? Look at Cutie Honey for example and the reoccuring Alphonse character or the principle from Devilman TV. For someone who works so much on Nagai manga you sure are fucking unfamiliar with him, xpearse
>>
>>15570871
Not to mention the ugly bow legged aspects of his main characters play a role in his manga. Like other characters mocking the character's physical aspects and the character overcoming that.

Leiji's women may be anorexic, but at least they don't have the anatomy of a bodybuilder or an ape.
>>
>>15570871
>Alphonse character
Alphonse is a cameo from his earlier manga, and he was originally male.

>Have you never read his comedy manga?
Yes I've read his comedy. Kekkou Kamen is still more normal looking than anything from Matsumoto. Here's another difference, I know when Nagai is doing a comedy, and when he's not. His early comedic works have cartoony designs, and that's excusable. Meanwhile, you have no clue what Matsumoto is doing with his. You have the midgets alongside real humans.

>xpearse
Not that guy.

>>15570879
>Leiji's women may be anorexic, but at least they don't have the anatomy of a bodybuilder or an ape.
I saw a range of women with Nagai, both skinny and fat. I've only seen the anorexic kind coming from Leiji. I just want to see Matsumoto do something that resembles a real woman, not a barbie at every turn.

I just wished Matsumoto reused a design that looks good. I don't care when Ishinomori or some other author does it, because when they do, their cartoony style characters look much nicer than this >>15565298

I've read people on /a/ saying that the company isn't very good, but is there any truth to that? I haven't read any of their releases, but supposedly they're up there with Yen-Press and Viz.

They fucked up Monster Musume pretty badly. I barely read TPBs anymore, but the general consensus is Seven Seas ranges from acceptable-to-dogshit. It probably all depends on the team working on it.
