They're called quadvees. They're vehicles that transform into mechs. Clans field vehicles in points of 2 with five points making a star, the most basic clan detachment.

According to Zellbringen, the clan honor code mechs may only fight one on one, but vehicles can be shit on with impunity.

So Clan Hell's Horses which has a reputation for fielding vehicles designs these things. In battles between clans there is the concept of "bidding", where you basically play chicken and bid down to the minimum number of troops you need to win. That way they can bid a star of vehicles, which is 10, but have them all transform and have 10 mechs instead.

Usually this screws over their opponent who has bid for a star of vehicles and must now follow Zellbringen when fighting the quadvees.

Zell's really fucking complicated, especially when you add in that there's various levels of zell-strictness and sometimes the faction will abandon zell on a large scale (see Wuffs at Tukayyid, Bias Bears against anyone they don't fucking like (they went full genocide on the Nova Cats after something that wasn't really a zell breach but they didn't like), the entire glorious clusterfuck that was the Wars of Reaving.)

And that's before you add in clan-specific bits, like the Horses treating vees as equal to mechs, or the Scorpions doing their funky "hit each limb to win" duels.
