Post-human, Trans-human, Cyberpunk

Let's all celebrate the coming singularity and the promise it brings of the godhood of man amidst a technological hell.

Fact.

He's probably right desu. You'd trust Facebook and microsoft with your body? Because that's who's going to be developing this shit, even if it's through a subsidiary to distance their logos from it.

So it's going to be the boring kind of dystopian future... sigh...

>Sony Walkman

Holy shit, that brings back memories. Where's this ad from, the 80s or 90s? I remember listening to all these old cassettes on my older brother's Walkman back when I was a kid in the early 90s. I guess a video walkman must have seemed cutting edge back then.

Everyone loves Cyberpunk. What people hate are the furries, sonic fans, larpers, board top gamers and deviantart fanfictionists who use the genre as a cheap vehicle to create lazy convoluted settings often from mutually exclusive genres ("It's J. R. R. Tolkien Fantasy meets Phillip K. Dick Sci-Fi with Furries set in a Cyberpunk Victorian era alternative history Future England"). Same case with Steampunk. No one hates Steampunk in and of itself, they just hate the nerds who think that wearing a cardboard top hat, cheap trench coat, goggles with cock gears glued on and some shoddy overpriced leather accessories makes them Dr. Who-lock. Steampunk fans are to Sci-Fi fandoms what Juggalos are to the Music scene honestly.
>>
>>15567131
I think at least a couple of the early "convoluted settings" are cool. Shadowrun is pretty fun...
>>
>>15567092
Early 90's. I had that same page scanner when i was in high school. It's hilarious how out of date the pic is now, almost every single thing he's carrying was replaced by a smartphone.
>>
When the fuck are we getting an affordable wearable AR device?
>>
>>15567139
I preferred the Rifts setting, World War 3 accidentally uncapping all the Ley Line nexus points by destroying ancient temples sounded better than earth drifting into an oort cloud or whatever it was that triggered goblinization. Athough both Rifts and Shadowrun had horrible game mechanics. R. Talsorian's Interlock system (cyberpunk, mekton, BGC) was what i used, with GURPS advantage/disadvantage system for creating magic, which plugged into the Interlock numbers quite nicely.
>>
>>15567141
Yeah. The funny thing about cyberpunk is how society has totally blown past some of its predictions while still middling behind its other ones. Like, all the external high tech, ranging from voice-changers to access to worldwide databanks to portable cameras, can fit on one tiny smartphone. On the other hand, we're still working on prosthetics and ways to interface with the brain directly a la Jimmy Mnemonic.

>>15567157
Ooh yeah, I don't know as much about RIFTS but I recall seeing some pretty cool artwork for it here and there.

>>15567157
>>
>>15567162
It goes like this:
If you want to cast a spell that you don't have enough magic points for, there are two ways to borrow some:
>cast it at a nexus
>sacrifice something
The latter is the most common, and at the moment of death a creature releases twice the number of magic points normally available to it.
Temples are kind of like capped oil wells. You build them on top of a natural spring (a ley line nexus point) and they both store and contain magical energy. In RIFTS, this is why the normal modern world is so...normal. All the nexus points are capped off with temples so very little magic energy seeps out into the rest of the world.

Then WWIII happens and not only uncaps all of those temples pretty much simultaneously but also kills most of the human race, freeing up a tremendous amount of magic points uncontrolled. This sudden flood of magical energy not only caused mutations (similar to the goblinization of Shadowrun) but also tore holes in reality all over the place. This was both the greatest strength and weakness of the setting. Anything you wanted to put into your game world, from whatever game, television show, video game, movie, or book, the only explanation you needed was "It fell out of a rift".

The actual game mechanics weren't too bad to start with, but each new sourcebook included some overpowered new weapon/armor/spell/mech that totally trumped everything in all previous books, so the power-creep was ridiculous.

Basically a pre-safeguard augmented human detective/cop who was recruited/conscripted by the Authority as an agent when everything went to shit. Sanakan thinks his body is stolen from the safeguard because shes dumb, hes 100% not a safeguard and his body isnt stolen from them.

Something like that.
>>
>>15569778
Wish I had an augmented body like that.

I've noticed alot of thematic similarities between Blame! and Knights of Sydonia.
