It's Tomino writing, you have to used to it. Some people never will. But that's just the way he does things, and if you don't like it the way Z flows, you're really not gonna like any of his shows. Except, maybe, 0079. I find that to be exceptionally American-friendly. Also, are you watching it subbed or dubbed? Try it dubbed, the way of speaking in the dub might be more bearable.

Eh, I do think it's a matter of style. Ways of writing and speaking, phrasing what you want to say, is not universal. I don't know enough about Japanese culture and writing to be able to judge whether he really is just a "bad" writer, or if it's a matter of cultural differences preventing understanding. Look at the Young Pope, for example. Americans generally didn't like it, said it pretentious and incomprehensible. Meanwhile in Europe it was a hit, and critics there said it wasn't subtle enough, and the characters seemed exaggerated and simple, as if dumbed down for an American audience.

The first time I saw Zeta I was won over by the mecha porn and thought it was the coolest thing ever. When I tried to watch it again over a decade later I wasn't as focused on the visuals and it was a rougher ride. The pacing is really uneven and a lot of characters are really hard to tolerate, but at least most of them die.

I'm watching Zeta at the moment and while I think it started off great I feel as if its gone to shit in the middle and now I find it difficult to keep watching. I'm on episode 33 now, does it pick up again soon?
I like the little space princess though.

This is pure bullshit though

None of his other shows are like Zeta. I fucking LOVED Victory, 0079 and Turn A, and hell I even really enjoyed G-Reco and would consider it a solid 8/10.
But not Zeta. Zeta was the only Gundam show aside from 00S1 that was offensively bad to watch.

I disagree. It has plenty of problems with how it paces its plot, but in terms of characters and theming it's mostly great. It's a very smart, if sometimes clumsy, sequel.

I thought Victory was a bit boring, in contrast.

I remember Brain Powerd, G-Reco, CCA, Xabungle, L-Gaim, Ideon, and King Gainer having silly dialogue and meandering plots.
I still love all of those series, though

I think its just really cool how it develops upon what occurred in 0079. Things like politics are introduced and the concept of newtypes are further expanded upon.

While yes the Titans mostly consist of horrible people, considering that the Zeon had committed atrocities like the colony drop on Sydney, starting a war that led to half of humanity being wiped out and trying to drop a colony AGAIN in 0083, it makes sense that the Federation would be pushed to such extremes that it brought rise to something as monstrous as the Titans. By the end though it ends being a three way war with the ending showing each side suffering considerable to major causalities with no one really coming out as victorious. It always portrayed characters dying in very ungraceful ways, they're barely ever built up and some of the deaths later on were a bit outrageous it helps show just how ugly war can get.

Kamille is also one of my favorite protagonist of all time. He grows immensely throughout the show and seeing all the shit he goes through was at times heartbreaking. The rest of the cast I will admit though is a mixed bag with Reccoa and Katz going down a direction that really had me scratching me head. Though most of the reoccurring cast like Amuro, Char and Bright are still great with new charas like Emma and Haman being welcome additions.

Zeta certainly has its faults but I still enjoyed it I think its builds on 0079 pretty well. However I do think its flaws can make or break the show for some people so I can kinda get where you're coming from. If you're pretty far into the show I would suggest trying to finish it though if only to experience one pretty climatic and brutal ending.

Katz is, thematically, one of the most important characters in the show. His demise was basically foreshadowed by his attitude toward Amuro.

Reccoa is a little more slippery, but ultimately her fate stems from her fixation with validation. Zeta is all about how the traits of individuals are reflected in an extreme scenario like war, and it goes to exaggerated and theatrical lengths to do it. Reccoa could have been handled better, but she still fits into what the show at large is doing.

How popular do you think "/m/ - Mecha" is for there to literally be new users here every single day who haven't seen Zeta and are just now complaining about it? It's not exactly Iron Leaguer here, it's one of the oldest and highest rated Gundam series.

I'm willing to bet that 90% of users here have seen all or most of Zeta. If they hadn't, the recent wave of spam probably got them to check it out anyways.

Notice also that every complaint is either the two word "it's shit" or some generic criticism about 'plot' 'writing' 'character development' and 'pacing' that could have been ripped from a review of grey's anatomy. Fucking seriously? they should at least mention what they think is wrong with each of these elements instead of listing them to sound credible.
