So reading the previous archived thread looks like it ended up being pure autism but I feel like saying thanks to the /m/an with the inforchart. I wasn't aware of Hikaruon and I fucking loved it.

My only gripe is, why is only 30 minutes long? Man I'd give a lot of things for more OVAs or TV series like that.

It seems that it was part of a direct-to-video series called Pink Noise (which comprised of Call Me Tonight, Hikaruon, Maryuu Senki and Body Jack), using fanservice of a different sort for each one-shot entry. In Hikaruon's case, it was toku fanservice.

Overall, it was really an experiment, much like many OVAs of the era.

To the dude who was talking about the HAPPENING in the latest Legend Heroes last thread, I want to go back man, I want to go back. This is the kind of despair a Phantom could only dream of making.

Plus, having a guy who literally just gets introduced this episode that can completely eradicate Sun Ce, Cao Cao, and Liu Bei who up until that point were shown to be the strongest protagonists, and wipe the floor with Liu Bei's ultimate mech that is considered the strongest in the heavens with a single hero piece is utter nonsense. Especially when he has no angel on his side and is basically just winging it using magic items that were completely worthless when used by anyone else for 30+ episodes.

He's part of the main crew. Like five or ten episodes in he joins Liu Bei's dojo and they even go on a meat eating spree because of it. He's not around as much after the major event in the 20s but he's still there on occasion.

I just don't get why it feels like they skimped on the mech stuff. They take the worst of Sentai mech fights (Where they get completely beat up and just use a finisher which somehow wins the fight), and the suits themselves look like someone made it in their garage, but they have mechs for like every single Legend Hero at the same time it's ridiculous. None of the actual Legend Hero suits or even the mooks look as bad as the mechs despite getting a good amount of screentime. G12 would eat its heart out looking at this thing.

For me the mechs are incredibly hit or miss. Guan Yu's mech is pretty cool and so is the combined form with the miracle head, Sun Ce's is very eh, Cao Cao's is very pointy but alright, and the rest all range from "meh" to downright awful. Personally I think the Heavenly Mech thing (The generic evil one) is the best looking one out of the lot.

At least when put in the right light they can end up looking alright, but the lighting they have usually makes them look far worse than they actually are. The new combined mech is great at certain angles (The "pose after we won" for example right at the end) but at others it looks like the suit is about to fall apart and the weapon is just an absolute mess with every new combination.

It's a partially helped by Ishinomori Pro and marketed by Bandai. So it has a lot of Kamen Rider-ish quirks (seeing the director really loves KR Black).

It's basically an even lower budget Kamen Rider. They balance the bad CGI it with decent fight choreography, cool suit design and decent amount of local flavor, where at times they tackle some problem facing Indonesians currently in a way not in-your-face. Being Half Indonesian myself and has many relatives there, i get a lot of the local flavors in the show.

I think the show is really good if you're a local. But as it is, i think it's a standard KR-ish show. Not great, but far from being bad.
