That was since Shin Godzilla is a multi cell organism, with an implied hivemind of it's cells, that had reached a state of being which brought constant evolution it became able to evolve on response to danger. The tail thing was a direct response to Godzilla's life being in danger, it always evolved based on new outside stimuli or threats. This is why they are reaching out and what is so horrifying about it. It can reproduce from just a small collection of its cells, it can create multiple bodies, it could evolve into something beyond a beast, it could have already done these things. The tail showed how threatening Shin Godzilla is, and it also implies what could have been most threatening was it becoming more like man or even surpassing it.

Watching the original on Turner Classics, I didn't realize how many allusions to the first movie were in Shin. I think Who Will Know was arranged to sound similar to that song that was playing when Godzilla flipped a bridge.

GMK obviously has its flaws. I don't anyone thinks its perfect. But the things detractors choose to dwell on are bit ridiculous. And I think this film holds up better as a complete film than anything in its general vicinity.

It has the most interesting human characters and best special effects of that bunch of flicks. Plus Godzilla's design is at its best here. Starting with Vs King Ghidorah the quality of each of these categories would diminish rapidly.

I think the scenes in Shin that really stuck with me was the parts with the soldiers and the drone exploring the destroyed city. The ashened streets covered with rubble and the eerie silence along with the massive plumes of smoke while Godzilla lay asleep in the midst of it all was haunting in the best way.

It was a similar feeling seeing the Muto nest in the 2014 movie, where they make they contort and rend the buildings around them to build a little hive for their babies.

Maybe it's the contrast of these massive manmade structures being acted upon by some greater force, but man I love those kinds of shots.

Hell yeah, Polygon did a great job with this. The animation and frame rate might take a little getting used to it, but it's really good. Absolutely loved the background work.
