So does this count as /mo/?
I started watching it and it's been a really fun ride so far. Character and car designs are a bit hit and miss.Anyone know where to get a download?
>>15528180
It's kind of cool, I guess. It's probably the anime industry's best attempt at trying to emulate what goes on in real motorsports into a show.
One of the issues I have the show is that they never really explain why the cyber system is important and makes the whole thing seem like some glorified infotainment system. Also in the later shows, the series becomes a dedicated to road course race tracks instead of the all-terrain rally type races they do in the beginning.
>>15528547
I don't think there is much of a point to the system except for just replacing the copilot with a lighter computer that gives way too long answers to stuff.
The only real gripe I have is that I know that they'll replace the touring car/rally Asurada with the more F1 looking one. Then again that seems to get rid of a few of the more silly designs for the other racers as well so there's that.
I like that there seems to be some sort of age progression later on.
The real question is if Hayato and Kaga switched cars, would Hayato do as well as Kaga did in the Ogre? Would Kaga still win in the Asurada?
>>15528876
No.
It's established that Hayato isn't all that good without Asurada.
>LIFTING TURN MOTHERFUCKER will never be real
makes me sad
by the way, who designed the cars in Cyber Formula?
>>15529034
> who designed the cars in Cyber Formula?
is dis nigga serious?
>>15529034
CF's mecha designer is Shoji Kawamori.
>>15529043
he also worked in the ones of the very first series? or only in the ones of the OVAS?
>>15529194
He's been involved since the original show, but there have been other designers along the way.
>>15528876
Well, the relationship between Hayato and Asurada seemed to be more of a "you choose a line and i'll back you up" as opposed to Kaga and Ogre's relationship of "you choose a line and i will give you the optimal adjustments for that line whether you wanted it or not". The fact that Kaga was able to get accustomed to that probably speaks enough about the difference in raw skill.
>>15529165
>>15529280
That explains why the cars turn into VF's with wheels later on.
>it has floats and an engine to use in water
>it has grappling hooks
What are all these random ass gagets with zero use in a serious racing situation like they are seemingly trying to portray?
>>15529309
the first cars were really funky but that gave them charm
by the Double One OVAs, they got sleek as fuck
>>15529467
They were installed because a legendary driver from the distant past had similar devices on his car.
>>15529467
The TV series was basically Speed Racer 2.0 with /m/-worthy designs and character references. It was when the producers started panicking because the ratings were weak that Sunrise gave the creators some more leeway with the show, which lead to the switch in focus to circuit racing and F1-inspired cars.
Then Fukuda brought in Morosawa as a writer for the last two OVAs and the series went downhill, but all in all it's a fun ride.
>>15529514I kind of think that Cyber Formula lead to the Speed Racer reboot failing, but whatever.
>>15529528
Well it'll take me a while, still on Ep10 of the series.
Is the whole thing, OVAs and all on youtube?
>>15529534
I believe so, but not a whole lot of it has subs. I do know that the BD rips are still up, but they're either raw and/or have Hong Kong subs hard-encoded.
>>15529534
whole thing was nya but that site died
>>15529545
Shame, haven't found a good source yet and the collection is just absurdly priced.
>>15529540
post that wheelie overtake Hayato pulls off on the cowboy in Double One
Assume for a moment that I was Osamu...
>>15529546
Don't suppose anyone has any of the BD rips for the OVAs anywhere. I'm certain I used to have them but can't find them on my HDs anywhere.
>>15529545
I hate how they tried to make Kyoko look sympathetic in the last couple OVAs after she was a callus cunt for most of the series.
>>15529540
Best moment in all Cyber Formula for me. Didn't realize how emotionally invested I was in the series until tears started to run down my face when Hayato and Kaga have their newtype-telepathy moment. Also, the BGM for the last lap of that race is fucking amazing: https://youtu.be/7Ctg1qs7Dcs
>>15528547
>It's kind of cool, I guess. It's probably the anime industry's best attempt at trying to emulate what goes on in real motorsports into a show.
Ahem. Pic related is manga, but it had an anime before Cyber Formula and is generally well more known, also won awards when it first came out.
>>15529688
Yeah... I personally blame Morosawa for that.
On the plus side, she did the "Gendo Pose" before Evangellion was even being planned.
>>15530141
Oh yeah... I recall reading a follow-up manga from that series, where either the lead guy or a friend goes and races the IRL's Infinity Pro Series or something.
>>15530141
What is it?
>>15530205
>she did the "Gendo Pose" before Evangellion was even being planned.
No, Anno just deconstructed it for Evangelion.

anyone got blu ray subs?
Will we ever get a new series? They've continued making Cyber Formula games since the last OVA, so the franchise is still half alive. And Japan's CG can at least do a decent car, since they don't have to animate it much.
>>15530205
But Kyoko's change starts in Double One, just as she learned about Kaga's past. Besides, Aoi Zip going down because of the scandal in SAGA and idiotic-CEO thinking that made the team start so badly in SIN was a good development. Don't start blaming Morosawa just because the GSD BS that permeates this place.
The in-world-build explanation for the racing changes is that FICCY change the rules fo CF be a circuit-made series, while rebuild the WRC with CC's tech (you see the Albatrander guy running again in a cyber rally car)
>>15529545
>>15529671
Pretty certain I at least have a BD rip of the series, but OVAs I'll need to double-check when I get home. Was skimming through some of them a few months ago.
>>15532414
The Moozzi2 torrent for the OVAs on nyaa is still alive and healthy, despite what the S/L figures say.
>>15532330
Only if Fukuda gets involved, and even then he's become a laughing stock, so I don't think they'll rehire him.
>>15532490
Ah, that might be what I have then, since I checked and the copies of the OVAs I have are BD rips, softsubs.
Was this intro song for the GC game ever translated or whatever lyrics gotten for it?

Anyone else think SAGA could've been the best OVA in the whole series with just a few tweaks? Because this thread got me interested in picking the show back up and honestly, it's not too bad so far. But I keep feeling like the focus is in the wrong place a lot of the time. (IE too much time on Hayato & Asuka melodrama.)
>>15537722
SAGA had some interesting races and cars and yeah, I agree that the drama had a bit too much focus. I mean, it was fitting to the overall story and characters but it took too much screentime from all the cool stuff we really came to see.
This is a bit off topic but I think this thread is fine. Does anyone remember the name of an anime short about a futuristic speedway race? The protag was connected to his machine, went a bit mad and died by going too fast. It looked kinda like this pic but lots more shading.
