to add to this just look at the super brief patient of this week, a mother who is only playing in the hopes of bringing her son back. she clearly had no idea what she was doing and was distraught because her teenage son is gone. she could have died, too. now that she's been saved, she's still going to have to go on living knowing her son died to a game and that she isn't good enough to bring him back. Dan clearly wasn't impacted by what she was going through in a normal way. he thought it was touching or whatever, sure, but he didn't seem to acknowledge the pain she's living through at all.

That's why it's pretty cool that Poppy/his mom putting herself in the path of DZ's finisher eventually made him wake up, a fairly neat little circle. I think there's still more to his personality than just the Gamesmaster and it's kind of a front, which kind of fits the theme of the show of how people have their real life personalities and their gaming personas.

At least I hope it works out that way.

Especially since Dan doesn't have infinite continues, he just has a lot of them. He burned two in less than a day. We don't know how revival in general works, but you still effectively only have one life to live if you have limited resurrections. The safety net is liable to push people to be more reckless both with their own lives and with those of other people.

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have continues than not, but Dan quite clearly uses them as a blank check to do whatever he wants and kill people without feeling bad about it, which is what Emu's pissed about.

I think this is all due to the trauma of his mom dying.
