Because the FAZZ is the name of a unit, that is kind of a full armored ZZ, from Sentiel.

Only it's a seprate unit, the extra armor is part of the unit and not ejectable, and it carries a big arse beam cannon as well.

I wouldn't call it entirely different. They're ZZ gundams without the transforming frame underneath that armor, which is pretty close to the real FA ZZ Gundam other than the fact that some of the weapons are dummies and not the real deal. They're also supped up in some regards, like the reactors and thrusters.

It's a mystery why AE didn't just stick some beam sabers on them and send them out to the Gundam team and make it the ZZ team. They're like 90% the same thing and were available much earlier.

They're based on the S Gundam's cannons rather than the ZZ's sabers. Even though the S Gundam is better designed it seems like they cut corners on some of those exotic features in favor of more conventional stuff. Hi-Mega was gone too and replaced with, honestly, a more functional gun, even if it's unnecessarily overpowered when the ZZ's double beam rifle is more than powerful enough to wreck anyone's day.
