>Stop hating Enterprise

Uhm no. I've watched the series when it aired and let me tell you all the potential went to shit the moment the whole temporal coldwar and the Xindi were brought in. The seasons went to shit, and not even T'pol and the Andorians (we should have had more of them) could save the sinking ship. Even the ending didn't resonate as high as it could because of the slogfest of the previous seasons.
>>
>>15513378
Season 1&2 sucked but 3 was bloody good.

>Season 1&2 sucked but 3 was bloody good.

1 relatively good season out of 3 is a pretty dismal record. An in my view it is not sufficient to redeem the show. Enterprise had potential, a lot of potential if they only stuck to doing what Star Trek does : explore and find new civilizations along the way. Most of the focus should have been on establishing the United Federation of Planets but that is not what we got. We got 2 seasons of Space 1999 season 2. And that ain't good no matter what Star Trek or Space 1999 fans say.
>>
>>15513378
Didn't this have a weird ending that implied the whole thing was just a simulation?
>>
>>15513448
Sounds about right. Kinda sad that only one of the four seasons kept me interested, hope the show is a step up.

New show*
>>
>>15513449
>Didn't this have a weird ending that implied the whole thing was just a simulation?

The final episode was a flashback as seen from from ST : TNG days with Diana Troy and Riker looking at a holographic story of the Enterprise and the founding of the Federation.

Star Trek needs to bring back the MACOs.

fugging red/tan shirt security/tactical officers are literally worse than cannon fodder. Though the MACOs operate operationally.
>>
Should Janeway have been more diplomatic in her journey through the frontier that is the Delta Quadrant, or more despotic?
>>
>>15513535
should have beamed a bunch of photon torpedos onto the Caretaker Array, with a time delay. used the the array to get home.
>>
>>15513536
But there was no time left. Voyager was severely damaged from the wormhole and Kazon ships were rapidly en-route. Plus, the program to reactivate the array would take several hours to initialize, and by that time Voyager would've been overrun and destroyed, making the holdout meaningless.
>>
Does anyone have the 4chan episode guides for TNG and DS9?

I'm already at the last episode of TNG but i feel like i could have skiped a bunch of shit. Don't want to make the same mistake in DS9.
>>
>>15513566

When it comes to DS9 know this : the first 2 seasons are so-so. From the 3rd seaspm onwards DS9 goes on to become the best ST show ever made. Yep even better than TOS. The final episodes are a bit of a downer, but season 3-7 are godly.
>>
>>15513448
All of the Star Trek shows had weak early seasons. The only difference with Enterprise is it got canned early, just as it was starting to take off.

>>
>>15514000
Probably, but I'm pretty sure you've seen the best the show has to offer.
>>
S3-4 were great.
I'm a big DS9 fan, but once Xindi stuff kicked in, show really was able to stand on its own. And S4 seemed like a good modern Trek, different from TNG era in a good way. Finale was not good at all, but rest of S4 deserves more recognition.
>>

Eh. It was average. The Temporal Cold War thing, while an interesting idea, should never have been in this show. I get that this was Paramount pushing this on the studio, and they tried to do as little with it as possible which I appreciated, but the show should have focused, primarily on the founding of the Federation, which it does have quite a bit of.
>>
I don't hate it. I do think it's pretty dull and I stopped watching it after the first season because I just wasn't interested. I might go back to it someday, though.

how the Cardassian Empire reached out to try to assist its Bajorn friends, who had lost their love of technology and discovery in favor religious intolerance.
How the Cardassian Empire generously tried to help Bajor develop it's mineral wealth.
How religious terrorism killed the sons, wives, and daughters of Cardassia and Bajor indiscriminately.
How Cardassia did nothing wrong.

One of the bigger issues was that everything seemed to focus on archer(probably because he cost the most), and everyone else was kinda just *there*. It was bullshit in Unicorn, but I never got why so many people don't like Enterprise's setting. Is it really so unbelievable that Earth would have its own star fleet and a history of adventures in the time between the invention of the warp drive and the formation of the Federation? Would you guys have preferred for the Federation to have formed immediately after First Contact, or for it to have already been there at that time?

>Would you guys have preferred for the Federation to have formed immediately after First Contact

What is wrong with that? Humanity has learned that we are not alone and it goes from there.

Would you agree that this "dropping "x" into a already existing timeline" trend needs to go? Just look at Thunderbolt fucking seriously this goes on the same time as Mobile Suit Gundam? What would be nice is if Sunrise JUST made alternate universe UC separate from already established UC.

That said, a few years ago, I sat down and watched with my wife over the course of a few months. Plus, the Temporal Cold War has been fun material to play with in STO. Your mileage may vary, though.

apply some lateral thinking to many of the technological feats shown in star trek.

you could build a cloaked ship with a massive transporter system. which would be able to retain the data of a person. then using that transporter you could change everyone on the ship into a copy of the person in the save file.

everyone in the ship could be slowly replaced with a copy of Ensign Gary.

One thing I hope they try to do with Star Trek in modern times is make more sets than you would in the average Star Trek show by utilizing CG. I know this probably won't happen, but it would be nice if Discovery featured more than just hallways and a few command rooms for the ships.

>>

There is basically no canon material that takes place after Nemesis, so there's not much. In the MMO the Dominion fleet that got zapped away in the wormhole suddenly appears again and is still trying to carry out their mission.

There like some book or something where they talk about how Jem'Hadar need like a ketracel-white methadone and have a very slim chance of being successfully integrated into a peacetime environment.

Then maybe they should put the bridge DEEPER INSIDE THE SHIP. You'd think that by the twenty-fourth century they'd have realized

1) We keep building our ships with "emergency bridges", so they're obviously needed, but
2) Nobody ever uses them (except for a few seconds in Encounter At Farpoint and Best Of Both Worlds), and
3) When the crew really needs to regroup, they ditch the saucer and go to engineering: the place where a ship full of styrofoam-headed aliens taking pot-shots are least likely to cause a hull breach. (Because, let's face it, if anyone was seriously trying to disable a Feddie ship they'd just cut off the warp nacelles.)

Dax episodes are shit in general. The only good one is Blood Oath, which probably would have just been a Wprf episode (and better off for it) if it had been made after Worf joined the cast.

I got the impression that nobody was really sure how to write Dax, so they just had her act as Generic Science Officer #412 (With Spots) and wrote "Old Man" into a few of Sisko's lines. After that sort of character became solidified, there was no hope.

The Klingon stuff was fun, but it felt pretty orthogonal to the way she was in every other episode. Personally, the best use of Dax I can remember was in If Wishes Were Horses when she remembered/imagined a historical anomaly and almost fucked over the station with it.

Dax was a good idea that was ruined by both not knowing what to do with the character they created, and Terry Farell's dry acting. "Young person with several lifetimes of experience, who tries to sound wise but isn't convincing" is one of the best ideas a Star Trek could come up with for a main character, and its amazing how they squandered it. Plus her relationship with Worf was bullshit, the romance he had with Troi was more convincing given that the actors actually had chemistry. When she died I wasn't at all sad to see her go.

And then they bring in Ezri
>Oh shit, Terry's leaving and now we have to come up with a brand new Dax to take her place, and we only have one season to develop this new character
>I got you, pham

Because everyone got over that shit and entered Pax Eartha after meeting space aliums and forming the Federation, which is now a post-scarcity society where no one really has to work if they don't want and can spend all their time painting flowers or running a fucking bistro without prices.

Unless you're in some muckety-muck academic, military, or science field where there's a hierarchy of political bickering where people get bureaucratically backstabbed over limited availability of important positions, life is fucking swell on the non-frontier Federation worlds (or at least, those that follow a human civil / cultural model).

Was it ever acknowledged in Voyager why (in-universe) they didn't switch uniforms when they established contact with the Federation? Some people on Stack Overflow say "replicators are expensive", but given how many shuttles they rebuild every season I think they could spare a hundred uniforms or so.
>>
>>15533461
Not to my knowledge. The most likely explanation is that it was just really low priority and they had sort of limited bandwidth. Alternately, Janeway might've thought her crew had grown used to the uniforms and changing them would futz with morale... though you could also get an increase of morale from the "we're part of the Federation again" element.

My money's on her keeping them as a sign that the crew are part of her personal fiefdom and no one else's.

Throughout early DS9 they also use what would become the Voyager-style uniforms for the station while they keep using the TNG style uniforms on the ships. So it seems like those uniforms are supposed to be for station operations while the other uniforms are for starship operations but then Generations which has both and Voyager which uses the DS9 uniforms makes it all confusing.

In conclusion Starfleet doesn't care about uniform uniforms I guess.

Other races already look down Starfleet for one reason or another, having spastic uniform designs is a drop in the bucket.

Those are actually my favorite post-TOS uniforms. The colors on the shoulders are just so crisp and practical. I was disappointed when they switched to pic related which makes it harder to distinguish officer colors. It's also not as good looking imo.

Agreed. I was going to add in that post "or did the Voyager production team just have good fashion sense", but I decided I'd rather get an answer than provoke.

I wonder which character has worn the most different uniform styles onscreen. Probably Spock, if you count The Cage + TOS + TMP + later films, or Picard with Tapestry + Early TNG + Late TNG + First Contact-style.
>>
Are admirals the pinnacle of Starfleet uniform non uniformity? I swear just about every single admiral seen in TNG+ is wearing something different from everybody else.

>>15534103
Picard also had that jacket and undershirt style uniform he occasionally used that IIRC we only see him ever wear.

I hate Family Guy/American Dad, but this looks like it might have potential. Always take trailers with a grain of salt, but here's how I see it: It may be Seth McFarlane, but it's sci-fi with pleasing CG, it has adventure, it's Star Trek-like and while it may not create any thought provoking shows like "Measure of a Man", at least it'll be fun and lighthearted. Also, since Seth McFarlane is a huge Star Trek fan, I have hope for it. Especially since I know he's going to cram in as many Star Trek actors as he can.

>>15534300
Yes, you're exactly right.

Been rewatching DS9 thanks to this thread; a bit into season 2 now. Duet was really fucking good, the guy playing Marritza sold the shit out of that role.

What are the best Star Trek books and episodes? I am a pretty big scifi fan of, well, Classic Doctor Who, Doctor Who EU, UC Gundam, Gundam 00, Hyperion Cantos, Foundation etc and love a good complicated plot.
>>
>>15534288
I think it's trying too hard to be funny. The dialogue between the blob and the captain goes for too long; it should've ended after the first "yeah, I'm fine".
>>
>>15534027

>Norm Macdonald as a Gelatenous Slime alien

Norm should have been the captain, Seth needs to stick to voice acting.
>>

Is the end of Star Trek as we know it? Will McFarlane direct the next Star Trek series?
>>
>>15534584

Except its literally Galaxy Quest without any of the charm or humor.

not him but I was reminded of galaxy quest but with way better special effects.
>>
>>15534716
Of course it's similar to Galaxy Quest, seeing as they are both Star Trek parodies. My gripe was with him judging the series before ever seeing even a single episode or anything more than a short trailer. But whatever, people are going to rage about this no matter how reasonable I try to be about it.
>>
>>15534741
Not that I'm a fan of Seth McFarlane, but as I recall, the original Galaxy Quest commercials also didn't make it look like anything special at the time. So I agree that it's silly to compare them.
>>
One of the old AWA cons I went to had a bunch of posters up for ATTENTION QUESTARIANS YOUR FAVORITE SHOW IS BACK

there were a few "that dude looks like Tim Allen, was this show Canadian? I've never heard of it" comments around the posters

holy shit that marketing was too ahead of its time.

Bullshit like that is why Worf spent so much time on the Rotarran during the war.

Galaxy Quest was a surprise to me, I had very low expectations for it but wow, it was actually really good. Actually, I'd say my initial impression of it after seeing a few clips was much like my current impression of Orville. I might get surprised again, but who knows. At least now there's at least two series to look forward to.

DS9 was originally going to be a station on the surface of Bajora. Where they would really try to hit up all the western elements.

The dominion war was going to have star fleet with power armor, small mechs, and all sort of crazy shit. but then the budget and state of CGI eliminated that.

Are these supposed to be Klingons, or some race like them?

I know we see the Klingon signatures, but between these guys looking so different, and having forehead ridges (you know whole Augment virus thing from ENT) I wonder if these guys aren't some other race and the Klingons are working with them/doing something regarding them as well.

If it's klingons looking like the Kangz, I'm gonna be pissed.
>>
>>15535722
Ancient Klingons supposedly.
What if they're the Fek'Ihri? The ancient enemies of the Klingons that Kahless was supposed to have conquered using the Sword of Kahless like two thousand years ago?
>>
>>15535618
So basically it's AbramsTrek: The series?

>>
>>15535750

>>
>>15535750
It wouldn't touch that at all. The Hur'q are the ones that stole the sword and took it to the Gamma Quadrant like 500 years after Kahless conquered the Fek'Ihri. It'd already be long gone by this point.
>>
>>15535821
Right. I forgot there were established ruins that led them there, I thought it was just a wrecked ship or a trace of DNA or anything that could have been sent through relatively recently.
>>
>>15535736
Maybe this is the botched first contact with the klingons that caused the war. ENT never addressed it after all, so obviously the Broken Bow encounter wasn't that one.
>>
>>15535618
>>15535749
I dunno but alot of JJ prise styled elements are present.

Honestly the trailer says a whole lot of nothing beyond 'Look Not!Klingons Rawr!" and "Look yet another cliche strong asertive female" so theres not much to judge.
>>
>>15535618
Netflix South American trailer is different. Some minor new scenes. Less lensflares. Overall feels like a better trailer than the CBS one.

I'm getting the vibe that she's a half Vulcan who went full human, like Spock went full Vulcan.
>>
>>15534309
Alright, I caved in and watched it. I retract my former disdain. It actually looks pretty decent, and the trailer seemed to dial-down a lot of McFarlane's usual comedy beats (at least up until the Ex-Wife/Number One showed up. I'll give it a watch.

>>15535618
This on the other hand... I'm going to have to see another trailer before I decide how I feel about this. Seems like it's leaning way to heavily on Enterprise and the reboot movies in terms of atmosphere, but maybe that's just me.

I don't even want to get into the "main" character. An angry badass who's destined for greatness but has to overcome her temper first. Never seen that before. Also she's... Half-Vulcan for some reason. Well, okay then.

I have to ask, that Shenzou (is it still the Shenzou?) looks pretty neat, if not a little too modern for the era.
>>
>>15535931
Weird how some different editing makes it look less like giant budget fanfiction and more like ham fisted Star Trek.

Titspock isn't the Captain, she's a Commander and the First Mate of the ship. Essentially, Sassy Black Riker is our MC; Captain Asian Lady hasn't given her a command of her own just yet, just noting that maybe she's ready for one.

you know, we don't know much about bathrooms in star trek.

that episode where picard finds him self abducted and locked in a room with 4 other aliens for a few days. yet not a toilet to be seen.

any brig/holding cell has no toilet. we know that beds slide out of the wall. so maybe a toilet does too.

we've seen characters have digestion issues and run away like they are going to a toilet.
