They can't anymore.

>How do we purge this cancer

By educating the uneducated /m/ masses.
Japanese mecha anime were done by men and/or women who knew and read western science fiction literature. They were not otakus who only knew how to do self referential animes. The first generation of anime creators were real eclectic artists. They knew about the west, they absorbed western culture and distillated it for their domestic audience. Western influence is obvious in Japanese mecha anime from the 60s, 70s and into the 80s.

With a gun

>They were not otakus who only knew how to do self referential animes.
That's why the industry sucks so hard now. People exist now for which anime is their only hobby, even in the west
>>
>>15486132
>there are actually people who think /m/ is just /a/ 2.0
We're more than just Gundams and Bugmen.

>You will never create some amazing shows, and directly inspire/drive entire new genres of work on the other side of the planet from the Slough Industrial Estate you work on.
>>
>>15486374
Best part is bugman don't really belong here. We just allow them to stay.
>>
>>15486585
Bugman discussion is mostly kept to /krg/ anyway.
>>
>>15486132
You've got to give weebs some credit on their mental gymnastics. Anyway War of the Worlds comes up they'll backflip through flaming hoops to prove that the U.K. isn't a western country.
>>

>We're more than just Gundams and Bugmen.

I'd like to believe that but c'mon seriously for every getter thread, votoms thread, and xabungle thread we have like 97 fucking gundam threads. Oh we also have that tokusatsu shit.
/m/ is dead man. 6 feet under dead.
>>
>>15486836
Not only that but tokusatsu and robot anime can be directly traced back to the love affair Japan had with Gerry Anderson's productions and the market desire for more works in a similar vein.
>>
Yes, lets just turn this into /m/ - Science Fiction and we might as well invite r/Gundam while we're at it.
>>
>>15487058
Are you aware /m/ has been discussing sf for years already?
>>
>>15487030
Tsuburaya definitely loved Gerry Anderson, but they were contemporary to each other, not antecedents. Godzilla came out in 1954, before Gerry Anderson had done anything of note. He has some credits in editing and sound departments from before that, but Tsuburaya got into the special effects game before he did.
>>
>>15487077
The demand for special effects science fiction telvision during the 1960s however was different markets to the cinematic aspects, especially as people were making large monster films across the globe at the time, with Godzilla being a notable example due to quality and the serious tone of the piece. Television production is a different story. In addition, the focus is different; a lot of special effects TV production combine the appeal of kaiju films with the Gerry Anderson aesthetic in order to satisfy this market. In addition, many of the features of Anderson's productions; lengthy technical porn sequences, launch sequences etc were copied wholesale. One only needs to look at the first two Mazinger series for examples of this, bringing elements from Stingray and Thunderbirds together.

You really think he had an influence on Astro Boy and Tetsujin? Or the Metropolis manga that's basically a prototype of Astro Boy?

>What is the real purpose of this thread?

To bring culture to the Zentrans and Meltrans of this world and start a shiny new future (for mecha).
>>
>>15487366
At first I thought it was supposed to be "let's talk about and appreciate old school /m/ sci-fi", but apparently now you have to be really angry and genocidal at everything for a thread to be even worth posting.
Fuck <them>, <they> are cancer that needs to be purged that ruined everything, etc etc.
>>
>>15486374
Compared to a couple years ago? Hell no. So much more of the board is bugmen and Gundams now it's getting boring
>>
>>15487058
>/m/ - Science Fiction
You gotta be suffering under some serious eye problems if you Browse this board and haven't realized yet that any sci Fi thread can fly just fine
The problem is 4chan needs a fantasy equivalent, and a horror equivalent. /tg/ is too proud of themselves & /x/ are garbage
>>
>>15487366
What does the subject say you dense Bastard? The fact that the posters are focusing on the negativity side of just shows that they have nothing better to post because all the good posters are gone
>>
>>15486132
>>if I pretend 3/4ths of science fiction history didn't happen, I can pretend the West can't into /m/!
what are you guys talking about?
Many Anons on /m/ are well aware of the west's input into the genre, however this board was an offshoot of /a/, so naturally the content here is anime-centric.

It would be like complaining about /vr/ only focusing on retro games and not other retro stuff.
