What is the oldest /m/-related work you've watched and enjoyed? Do you believe there's a cutoff point where something's age simply disqualifies it from being good any longer? I'll include toku in this question as well.

Everything made before 0079 and after F91 is shit.
>>
Mazinger Z
A good work is always timeless.

Metropolis.

No.
>>
I'm not sure if this is older than Metropolis, they're both the same year

Probably this or something from the same era.

For anime and manga probably Astro Boy. I think anyone with a serious interest in mecha will seek out older works to see how tings developed. From the sentient robots of the 50's and 60's to the piloted robots of the 70's and on-wards.
>>
Does War of the Worlds count? Thinking of the movie from 53, not the radio drama, haven't heard that one. And the album from the 70s was bloody amazing. But the old movie was great.

Pretty sure tentacle porn (2:55) isn't okay on a blue board.

Radio drama's pretty cool.
>>
>>15484377
I totally forgot that I watched the 1953 WotW movie when I was a kid and loved it. It's probably what got me into sci-fi as a kid.

Mazinger/Getter manga and Toei Getter.

Not at all.

That whole scene should be behind a sad panda if you think about it in internetvision.

Also I've seen a few old French silent shorts. Now that I think about it some of those have mechanical designs.

How would a performance of RUR count? Date of performance or of the play's origin?
>>
MSG for anime, Kamen Rider 1 for toku.
Nope, not at all.

good content will always stand the test of time.
I find with a lot of cartoons stuff from the 80s early 90s was the best as censorship was loose.
these days it's about extremes. either so censored it's sterile or so violent and sexual that it's hard to take seriously.

And to top it off attack on titan and game of thrones claim to fame was "oh my characters get killed off all the time so violent" gundam has been killing characters off since the get go and the original berserk broke my brain when i got to the final episodes.

Zambot 3.

No.

>Friends watch GoT
>Anon, it has politics and stuff!
>Anon, it has important characters dying and stuff!

LoGH in fantasy land
>>
>>15483735
Nope. If you can look past old animation/effects then any show can be enjoyable.

I'm halfway through Mazinger right now. Episode 52 was great.

>Kouji and Sayaka beating the shit out of each other over a misunderstanding
>Kouji rolling Mazinger at the beast like fucking Sonic
>Kouji almost dying
>Based Boss protecting disabled kids
>Mazinger catching the beast's saws and throwing them back

Zambot 3 is the only pre-MSG anime I've watched all the way through. I have to say, the writing was not that good, even if the general ideas were enough to take me to the very end. I consider it a 6/10.

I want to try Mazinger Z and Getter Robo since I love early 80s meca like Macross and Dunbine so much and yet have hardly been able to get into 70s stuff, usually I end up dropping those shows before the first episode is up, I don't know why.

No. Age itself isn't a reason per se.

>What is the oldest /m/-related work you've watched and enjoyed?

0079, gonna get around to watching older shows eventually though.

>Do you believe there's a cutoff point where something's age simply disqualifies it from being good any longer?

No.

Does kaiju stuff count?
I liked Gojira, just started watching Toho kaiju movies in production order, I'm enjoying them.

Americans have gotten so used to TV consisting solely on corny sitcoms and sloppy reality series that even a continuous storyline is amazing.
