Finale wasn't great.
It was amazing.
Talk all the shit about 7 you want and I agree that it has a lot of problems, but that final fight absolutely nailed what Macross should be about.
Arguably even more so than everything else in the franchise.

Cheap deus ex machinas via song magic? Because that definitely wasn't a part of the original story, and it most certainly didn't have to be the only way any future series could possibly go for their endings.

Song magic by M-idol solved everything.
7 just executed it way better.
