I honestly don't even know what they are trying to do with anime Thunderbolt in relation to tying it to the main UC timeline:

-Aqua Ball and Z-gok slightly changed, while Aqua GM heavily redesigned(manga and UC version mix)
-Z-Gok and Gogg anime versions are said in their profiles to be larger versions of their OYW counterpart, recolored to the match the existing designs as with everything that had different colors in the manga
-Instead of the manga new Geta SFS they are using Corvette Boosters as the EFF SFS
-The Zanny manga MS was renamed to Dare for no reason

Even SW has different canons for different stories, extended canon is more of an umbrella than ALL extra material, written and other, being canon even though some contradict each other or diverge.

On the other hand, Japan has a similar mentality as the Biblical canon in other works, it's just that in the case of UC Gundam it's chalked up to differences in historical records of one timeline.

Yeah, and the Vist foundation funded most if not just part of it.

People say that the Unicorns are part of some kind of secret anti-newtype project started by the Federation, but I don't really see it. For one, both Unicorns were developed and built by Anaheim. The white one is in the Vist foundation's hand, which for the most part is antagonistic to the Federation since they've been blackmailing them for about a century.

Second, there doesn't seem to be any direct Federation involvement. While there are elements of the Federation that know of and are taking part in the story (Federation president, Cheyenne mountain base command, General Revil crew, etc) they are more antagonists to the Unicorns and the laplace thing than anything else, and at best they're just shady partners. For a project supposedly initiated by the Federation, the Federation has zero control over the main products of what is supposed to be their own pet project. Even when the Banshee is deployed in battle, it was under the orders of the AE people, not the Federation.

The gun is using a three track system rather than a two track system.

US Navy moved to a three track system recently for rail gun design for the purposes of size and heat. A three track system means the actual gun system can be smaller, accelerate at the same speed as a two track system, and generates less heat and tension on the rails.

I've always questioned how they are handling the gunpla release for Thunderbolt as it got animated:

1)They could have relaunched the series with the anime redesigns along anime S1, but didn't. Instead we got slight recolors with new packaging
2)If they didn't want to release HG anime designs they could have at least released the missing manga designs from S1: GM Cannon, Rick Dom, Guncannon, Gelgoog. Sadly didn't happen
3)They could have finally started the anime line with S2, but no, we got just 2 manga designs so far.
4)MG line is a mix of manga and anime designs

I could see them coming out more down the line when Origin hype has tapered off, or they realize that both can exist pretty well, if they prioritize.

I mean I can see them not launching the TB Gouf, and Zaku's and Guncannons while they are launching the Origin versions of those, but they could launch things like the Origin Goggs, and Acguys etc. and then as Origin moves past showing off those formerly mentioned things they can release the Thunderbolt kits.

Animation quality really dropped, in certain scenes like the 'jazz' session Io and Bianca had. Just watch her hands and the keys.

And ignoring the complete feddie wank this episode's battle was, again. Same results in the manga, but at least in that version the Io set up a decoy maneuver to catch the Z'gok's off guard than yet another Unicorn battle unfolding. They really fucked up the pacing by spoiling the surprise that the Zeon team was under the influence of the South Sea Alliance right off the batt. I can understand why they couldn't play the episode in reverse like in the manga, but I was miffed how they just show Kaufman and his crew were apart of the South Sea Alliance instead of having it be a a reveler at the end of the episode when he went into Bull's quarters. Also it would made his prayer a more interesting hint, than just a confirmation.

Also, anyone notice how Sunrise has been increasing the amount of crushed by cockpit folding in on the pilot deaths? Not talking about cockpit punching, but full on Akira Anime only]/spoiler] death by compression.

And has to be saved by the main feddie so goes on to easily solo all the South Sea Alliance forces who all magically forget how to strafe and evade since the Feddie pilot has 100% accuracy.

Actually, given that the Origin staff were instructed by Imanishi to change minor bits and modify the designs to fit into UC proper, the opposite seems more likely; they are retconning UC itself rather than making an alternate take on it.

Similarly with Thunderbolt, the only source we got on it being Alt-UC is the manga author being told he has complete creative freedom, but given that's pretty much how Sunrise approached 0080, 0083, 08th MS Team, and Endless Waltz as well, that could mean anything for the actual animation.

In fact, the only OVA that's tried to maintain some level of lore consistency in visual design is Unicorn, but Unicorn is more or less a love-letter to classic fans to begin with, so that just came with the package.

The ONLY stance Sunrise has ever put forth is "if a mobile suit design shows up in anime, we're 100% cool with it, and everything else that doesn't is part of a grey area that's mostly canon anyway."

If anything, Thunderbolt could and probably should be taken in the same vein as Endless Waltz was; same setting, different artistic takes on mobile suits. Nothing more complicated than that.

Because Atlas isn't really that great if you think about it. It was mainly designed for marine operations and it has an extremely limited operational time. Most of it's advanced looking parts are basically just reverse engineered Zeon amphibious mobile suit parts.

The Atlas sacrifices too much in order to be able to operate in the water, which is a super niche combat theatre. GPO1 is designed to work on land and in space in a more balanced and efficient fashion. GPO2 was created to launch nukes so there really is no comparison.
