Context of the universe it sits in is important. In Combattler V, the robot is a super-special robot. It's not part of an army, there's nothing remotely like it. If FTL and planet destruction grade weaponry is somewhat available it's probably real robot; this isn't cut in stone obviously, trying to shoehorn in two robo genders is what binary white male otaku scum does.

In Gundam, mecha are treated as normal weapons like a gun, plane or tank. In Mazinger, mecha are rare and amazing. Arguably, in Getter Robo mecha are treated as normal weapons too.

How the fuck is the Apsalus a normal weapon ? How the fuck are Zeon prototypes (Zeong, Zakrello etc...) mobile suits/armors normal weapons ? Each time Sunrise shits out another UC episode it has UNIQUE prototype mobile suits/armors. Mass produced shit doesn't even enter into the equation man.
