Getter is mysterious and it's end goal isn't clear, it's functioning at a much higher level of purpose than humans can probably relate to. It is the will of the universe and it wants to keep evolving to an end result we can only really wonder about.

It's a literal deus ex machina, yes, though not a literary one. Getter rays have always been a plot device of sorts since they are the crux of the story.

The later entries were much like the original. They had a stronger ongoing narrative about getter, but they were just as full of adventure, action and even comedy.

No, Getter's limits are pretty clearly defined in the story. Powerful entities like Getter Emperor exist as a background to the story rather than being an active component. Even Shin Getter's freakish abilities in Go are built up to from its introduction until the ending. As for being a plot device, that would be incorrect since Getter itself is the plot.

I mean, it's pretty obvious you're just trying to get a rise out of others with inflammatory generalizations, but there's your answer.

the whole future scene gave the getter a not so heroic or good tone with the indiscriminated destruction of planets, i wouldn't be surprised if ishikawa's plan for the plot was a journey to stop the emperor reaching that state while the new getter trio/duo used Arc and probably Bug
just to realise that their struggle was futile
