I was watching the MSG Trilogy movies yesterday, this time actually paying closer than normal attention, and I got stuck in a thought loop concerning Gihren's push for spacenoid supremacy.
I understand his entire jockying for power was such that he could enact a culling of the human population, leveraging the population of Zeon as the progenitors of a superior, Newtype spacenoid race.
My question is simply:
What are Gihren's criteria for a "supreme" being? Zeon has a collection of races, genders, I'm assuming religious ideology, etc... so then what constitutes the people of Zeon as being "superior" to others, in Gihren's eyes? Simply having been born/lived in Side 3?
To be frank, it isn't entirely clear if a perfect Newtype race is what Gihren is truly after. In fact, some of the dialogue (going on both Subs and the old english dub for other perspective) suggests he doesn't even believe that Newtypes are a legitimate thing to want to nurture, foster or otherwise concern himself with.
He wants power and he wants people that "he wants" to be alive, in power, and calling the shots as superior people. So then, what does Gihren look for to determine who is "Superior" and who is "inferior?"
Is it safe to assume that he would start of "global" and call Zeon the superior race, then narrow the funnel until there's some more "typical" group of traits he considers superior? If so, what are those traits?
Aristocratic status?
Gender/race/religion?
Spacenoid=sperior
Earthnoid=inferior
It was based on Zeon's philosophy about progress into space.
I don't think he actually cared. I think it was simply rhetoric to gain him followers, and whoever followed him was superior simply because they followed him.

The issue is that you're trying to define Zeon's side-ism in racial terms (or, in terms of how we define social/ethnic conflicts in our own world). If you buy into the main tenets of Contolism, then you believe that humans are meant to progress into eventually living in space. If you're born in space, or born into the independent spacenoid colonies that consist of the principality of Zeon, then you are at the forefront of the progress of the human race. Think less social darwinism and more Nietzsche.

I half wonder if it truly is that simple.

Granted I'm not familiar much with Contolism, but this helps to widen the "X people are superior" funnel. You are correct, I am trying to fit this into the world view I am familiar with-- superiority rooted in socioeconomic/racial/religious/gender roles.

Then probably in will fit most closely in the "religious" category.
