I just watched the whole thing and I can't really tell if the show is meant to be a sequel or not. If it is, then the show doesn't make much sense given how F.S appears to be Shinobu, which would make the Zorbados invasion a thing that happened in recent memory, yet it doesn't seem to have happened at all given how the characters describe the world they're in, react with surprise when they hear about threats from outer space and so on. It also begs the question as to what happened to the rest of the original cast

I wouldn't pay it much mind. It's really just a case of using a known name to sell a new show. It's pretty clear they didn't want to rely on or be push the connection very much so Id just consider them separate beasts and take them both at face value.
