***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

**MELEE GROUP BUILD**

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, Rocket Launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale and any brand is fair game here, you're not limited to just using Gundams this time around.

Finished my second kit today. Looking at it now, I have a feeling that I went a bit over the top with panel lining, so I might go back and redo some parts. I plan to seam weld some parts and topcoat the kit later on. Also probably need a better pose, but can't think of anything right now.

Nearing completion on snapping my gp01 perfect grade. Just a little bit more of the space armor and the wonky space core fighter to go. Getting a little tired of working on it, though. Gonna work on some hgs in my backlog once this guy is done.

At work, so no pics at the moment

You're right. It really pisses me off because zeon suits are supposed to be less angular. I can still like it, but it's still wrong.

This is what was below that picture.

Explain to me this fucking gay ass homosex bullshit. Why is the Schneid getting a release before the Efreet Custom?

Without the rocket pants of the Custom, the Efreet Schneid is a flaming gay Gouf with a different hat and tryhard knives glued to it that also fucks with canon.
>MS shotguns don't come into wide use outside of specific SpecOps cases like the Kampfer because each shot is fucking expensive
>lets give the Shneid lots of one-use gimmick kunai and have to resupply that after every battle

That I'd agree with honestly. The rocket pants and missile pods look to be considerably intensive in plastic; at least a half plastic sprue, if not more for color separation.

Are gunpla toys? do you get offended when people ask you why you play with toys?

If Gundams arent toys how come they come with safety nubs? Checkmate atheists.
>>

Are Tamiya acrylics more scratch resistant/durable than the vallejo acrylics?

Gundam Kits Collection says it's a regular release coming out in July at (a rather expensive) 1944 yen.

Granted, this is early info as it stands, so it may change as we approach summer, but Gundam Kits Collection is fairly reliable in info.
>>

At the very bottom they test fitted the old FAZZ parts onto the new ZZ ver Ka.

..............

So it's going to be a P-Bandai release for the FAZZ

Tamiya rattle cans. Metallic red and blue, and gold. My hobby shop had the fancy $21 can that has real gold in it but fuck that noise. I just got the regular one for $7. I'm giving those a pearl clear coat. I'm focusing on the pieces I actually painted this weekend. I've already detailed the white parts, just need to touch a few spots, so I'll coat those when I do the final topcoat for the rest of the kit.

Explain why the MG FAZZ and FA ZZ is just a color swap then
>>
>>15463696
They aren't though. The FA ZZ's armor can be purged to transform it into the Enhanced ZZ, and it can seperate into its components. In the show, it can also turn into the G-Fortress, but they didn't get the engineering to work for the kit.
The FAZZ can't do any of that, and its Hi-Mega Cannon in the head is just for show. So are the Mega Beam Sabers on the backpack.
>>
>>15463671

I'll see about getting a darker background, and the picture was a bit blurry anyhow so I doubt it helps. Thanks for the advice!

>>
>>15463920
I never got why people are so driven to take customizing gunpla so seriously like it's their job to do that. They're assuming everyone wants their kit to look like it does on the back of the instruction booklet. Not everyone wants to turn gunpla into something professional, those who do are likely going to lose interest in it quicker, cause they'll start to see the entire process of building, gluing, and painting their kit up as a chore, they stop doing it because they like to, and end up doing it because they feel they are obligated to do so.
>>
>>15463950
because it looks fucking awesome

When I finish a kit and it doesn't look good, I lose motivation for the next one.
>>
>>15463950

But... Isn't that the whole point of a model kit? Like, if you just want a physical representation of the robot, there are options.

I guess if you just like the snapping process that's one thing; but you've gotta understand that it's like buying a big lego set and just building whatever you want with it right away without ever building what the set was meant to be.
>>
>>15463950

I recently purchased the Katoki Sazabi, and I'm super interested in doing a Nightingale conversion, thing is I can't find the (seemingly) only conversion kit around (GMG).

Any tips or leads? Pic related

i remember seeing a brand of acrylic that did the colour changing like in your picture, but i cannot remember the name. there is a word for when a colour shifts, chromaflair on cars, which describes what you're trying to achieve
>>
>>15464465
Liquitex and Golden have interference colors that are in liquid form (so needs thinning with airbrush anyway). Problem is that the color shift shows up only on black or white surfaces, so I have no idea how well a color shift might be on a brass colored surface.

>not putting a bag over your girl and banging the gunpla
>>
>>15464851
Well, maybe to support the industry we should stop pirat-
Oh wait, our money already finds it way to fucking Bandai some way or another.

Bandai have me on the fence recently. They've done good shit with the Providence, GM Sniper II, doing a ZZ ver .ka, more ZZ kits in general, and the IBO 1/100 FM line is good bang for your buck for an NG+. Not to mention how solid all the HG IBO kits are compared to most G-Reco kits.
But then we've been getting a ton of lazy shit like the Twilight Axis kits, "you rike design? fuck you it P-Bandai", no love for 00's anniversary, lack of MGs last year, and how the new HG Zeta really wasn't nearly as revolutionary as it could have been.
>>
>>15465087
P-Bandai kits are often because Bandai just doesn't expect them to sell well after initial release. A while ago Derringer stated that the pool of kits that sell well on reprints is dwindling. The Hyakuren's a recent example; checking the restock lists, it was reprinted in February 2016 and didn't get another one until March this year. And that' thing had release synergy with the show.

And a lot of P-Bandai kits are simple recolors, which don't really need their own proper release. Ride's Shiden and Orga's Shiden looked nice but barely showed up, and Bandai included parts with the option sets that allowed builders to make one. Plus if Derringer's push to bring P-Bandai to the west happens, it'll be much less of a ballache to get them.

Then they do shit like making the Strike Freedom+Figure Rise busts a normal release while relegating the GM II and White Dingo SM Sniper II to P-Bandai, and have left the Pale Rider as a permanent exclusive kit, and it really shits on trust for what Bandai's analysts are thinking/the taste of the Japanese buyers.

At times P-Bandai is really silly, and Bandai's view on Gunpla. The P-Bandai Tallgeese models, Altron, and Heavyarms would have been wise to make regular releases because of the western market. They'd outsell in the west 4-1 due to their popularity. But instead they're P-Bandai because they aren't nearly as popular in Japan. But other models make sense due to just lack of interest.

They're getting better with their stuff in the West, but they're really missing the mark from a business perspective. Hopefully this is the point Derringer's trying to make to the higher ups at Bandai.

The 1/100s the only one worth the money. I love the boxarts for my HG flags, but I only got them for that honestly.

The 1/100 has lots of the trappings of scale aircraft models, which is fucking awesome considering the suit's context. it comes with groundcrew minatures, landing gears, and the art on the manual is sweet.
>>
>>15465922
That box art is comfy as fuck.

Good boxart doesn't have to be the main suit zooming around in space with random explosions
>>

Overflag was a decent kit but it's nothing compared to the 1/100 Tieren, quite possibly the greatest No Grade kit ever made.

Just be careful with the B runner (the RG inner frame) and it will be like an HG with lots of small pieces. The weird thing about RG:s is the way they have you twist the B runner pieces, so just pay attention to the instructions.

If youre doing a lot of painting or detail work, you end up taking the kit apart and putting it back together a lot. I don't usually always paint everything in one go, usually i'll paint in segments and i glue a lot of pieces so i have to prime and paint some before i can prime and paint the others. Not everyone has the same process exactly

Nothing is more romantic than sharing blood born pathogens, bro. Why do you think STI's are so popular?
>>
>>15465815
Use tamiya mark fit to soften the decal helping it go around curvers and then cut the decal down the seam. You can also use a qtip to push out air bubbles.
>>
>>15467886
Not him, but isn't Mark Fit for waterslides?

Also how do you deal with stickers that don't want to fucking stick?
>>
>>15467945
It's worked on regular stickers for me so I don't know for sure. Sometimes even helps to blend the edges in more so it looks less like a sticker.

I avoid using my fingers so the stickers don't get dirty so they don't fall off.

1. Put a dab of mark fit onto the spot
2. Take sticker/decal off with knife (I prefer this over tweezers)
3. Gently place onto the piece
4. Rub in with qtip

Then a clear coat should keep them on forever.

Honestly pretty curious about them, I know for the Tallgeese they have more details and come with extra weapons.

I fucking want that heat tempest.

Also it seems DM is making kits than Bandai hasn't. And considering Bandai doesn't seem to be producing much in the way of 1/100 scale, I think the chinks may be the ones to carry the torch.

If one they had just made a normal TV Deathscythe Hell, instead of some edgy original design.

All the first season suits are normal but not the 2nd season suits.

I guess both Wing Zero versions are normal.

Built the Sword Impulse but it's the same shit, only with different backpacks.
Most here including me would agree that the Impulse MG is pretty fucking great, loaded with gimmicks true to the anime.
The Force even comes with one of the Swords's Excalibur for Freedom stabbing action.
Went with the Sword due to nostalgic reasons.
Shame we never got a Blast Impulse.

Guys, I need help.

I'm trying to buy my first batch of airbrush paint online and without a real life sample picture, every color looks more or less the same.

How do you buy paint online?
>>
>>15468276
>>15468279

>Sample is large enough to vectorize and make 3rd party prints
>>
>>15469145

Looking at paint in a bottle isn't a super good method either. I just buy what looks/sounds good and then test it on spoons.

But there should be a pdf or similar of each brands colour libraries, at least vallejo has that. It's a start.
>>
>>15469244
I'm looking at the Vallejo pdf, and the color samples are just digital colors.

Looks like I just have to guess and hope I get what I want?

I'm new-ish(within the last year) to gunpla, is there any chance of Bandai releasing an old design again in hg 1/144 like the Baund Doc? I really want one.
>>
>>15470818
there might be a chance considering the new hg zeta just came out
>>
>>15470822
Awesome, thanks
>>
>>15470818
Bandai's also releasing an HGUC Barzam's pretty soon. There are very few suits left from Zeta that don't have an HG, but I think all of them would sell. Just need to wait for them to make it.
>>
>>15470818

If Bandai ever does get around to releasing an HGUC Bound Doc, it'll most certainly be the last thing they do for the Zeta series. If you're okay with toys, the MSiA figure is a decent substitute for the time being. Slightly smaller scale than 1/144, but the MS is so large to begin with that I don't think it's a super big deal.

Yo /m/, quick question for you because I'm an idiot.
Let's say I wanted to do a white stripe on a piece, would the painting order go as followed?

Prime white - paint white - mask - prime gray - paint other colour?

Also, if I'm painting this white stripe on a black piece, should I prime grey first, or just go straight to white?

That looks right, is the other color you are doing requiring you to prime grey to get the shade you want? I don't think that the white primer wouldn't work for another color though?
