Downward swings shouldn't look so slow and floaty. Instead of having momentum they look like they're underwater or moving through a gel. It's excessive and indulgent, like Oshii's visual direction and it's more interested in looking busy than accurate.

Save for EOE, my guess, you should check BreakBlade and Vision of Escaflowne (TV-version especially). Feeling of mecha`s mass is depicted very well there.
Full Metall Panic isn`t half-bad also. Supposedly upcoming "Knights and Magic" will be good too, if animators do their job well. In the light novel, problem of mass and inertia was taken very seriously.

VOTOMS are basically bipedal tanks with heelies, it's pretty fucking radical in my opinion. They're fast when they're rolling around but so are tanks, and they really retain a lot of weight.
