I can see Doomguy working with the Arbalest because it has a shotgun. Shotguns and rockets are what Doom's all about, the chaingun was always the weakest part of the arsenal so robots with mostly rapid fire weapons wouldn't suit him at all.

The only thing it's missing is a shotgun.

Although the first time I saw the Brutish Dog, I thought its sevel-barreled gun was a volley guy. It's supposed to be a gattling gun, but the barrels don't rotate and one of them's in the center, and it's constantly spraying a cloud of small projectiles like it's a giant shotgun anyway, so...

Doom guy is actually piloting MD Geist from inside his brain.
