For fuck's sake, my main computer went completely down 2 months ago and I bought another one to replace it, all the obscure anime I downloaded went with it so I was ready to torrent all my collection back into this new computer.

Of all things happening, I didn't suspect bakabt would go down, no one cares about old mangas and cartoons in the west, why even bother taking it down?
>>
It isn't truly down but is sort of in the process of becoming private. Keep watching for further developments.
>>
I feel you anon I wanted to download Betterman
>>
Just a question.
But can you still download the torrents from Bakabt if you have the .torrent file ?
>>
>>15456619
If you have an account it's sorta accessible but clearly having new host teething issues.
>>
>>15456631
Betterman is truly a hidden gem, great anime, i think you can find it on streaming to get an idea

Very clever mix of spooks, sad moments and slapstick
>>
>>15456611
I bet Daiz did it.

Copyright trolls claiming everything from pictures to text.

They relocated and it went back up yesterday but I guess it's down again now for whatever reason.
>>
>>15456752
It's set in the same universe of Gaogaigar right?
I watched like 1 episode, but it felt really weird to me that betterman and Gaogaigar are set in the same timeframe.
>>
>>15456877
>Copyright trolls claiming everything from pictures to text
What a bunch of faggot, couldn't they attack some normie torrents instead?

>>15456883
>It's set in the same universe of Gaogaigar right?
Get that out of your mind or you will be disappointed, they're set in the same universe but they don't share anything besides that. Betterman is a thriller with a bit of horror, a bit of comedy, kaiju-like beasts and mechs.
>>
>>15456611
>torrent all my collection back into this new computer.
Oh shit niger what are you doing?
What was wrong with your old PC? If you had to buy a whole new one then it can't be just a hard disk problem. Just slap the hard disk in your new one if there's nothing wrong with it. Redownloading stuff from the internet is absolutly the slowest and worst way to get your stuff back.

And come up with some backup scheme from now on. Me, my torrents go to a NAS so the initial download is also my backup.
>>
>>15456619
I believe they're supposed to be switching back to public eventually. It's just issues with copyright trolls and finding good hosting.
>>
>>15457094
It was just the hdd that made it "implode" (apparently this is supposed to happen after a hard shock, but it was perfectly still when it destroyed itself), I didn't actually buy a new computer, just upgraded it a little with the new hdd, replaced some old cables with new ones, new graphics card etc

I tend to skip on details to make my stories more relatable and less boring

>And come up with some backup scheme from now on
Actually i had an external hdd for years, it broke last year and I was too lazy to buy a ssd (I'm frequently traveling that's why it broke and that's why I have to buy a ssd), still too poor to buy one
>>
>>15456631
Same here

>>15456611
Private. I have an account. Once they are opening again I'll see if I can get some folks on /m/ an invite.

Most anime fags won't care but if you want to watch old/obscure shows bakaBT is your only source. Hell I had difficulty tracking down .Hack Roots when bakaBT was down and that show is a classic!
>>
>>15456674
Of course you can. That should be basic knowledge.
>>
>>15457105
They've been answering questions on twitter, and said they "We will not be putting our public tracker back up for the foreseeable future." Presumably if it were just a DMCA issue they could take steps to make that a non-issue with their server move.
>>
>>15456631
The ACX rip of Betterman is readily available on IRC at least. I don't believe it is as nice as the SSP-Corp release BakaBT has though.

I'd rather not have to download everything in blu-ray quality. I wish I atleast had the option to create a new account.
>>
>>15456611
What went wrong with your old computer?
If it was OS related you can still retrieve all of the files off the HDD with a bootable linux thumbdrive (assuming you didn't encrypt your home folder).

Aside from just a reduction in the number of rips, there are shows that Nyaa just flat out doesn't have (even if they have a surprising amount). The biggest loss out of BakaBT going private is for the moment there is no longer a reliable public source for a number of shows.

Bakabt is up right now
~Duki3003

Update: While the services are up, we are experiencing some technical difficulties with backups, making them go haywire and commit seppuku, so unfortunately for the second time we had to restore the website to a previous working version, so all data and changes made in the meanwhile were lost. We're working to resolve this situation.

Update 2: We still haven't determined the exact cause what was causing our services to impload during backups, but we have narrowed it down to possible issues with our hard drives. Unfortunately we will have to rely on our new provider's support department to handle this. Therefore expect some more downtime periods during maintenance in the following days.
>>
For fuck's sake, the site is just slowly going private. Wait until they open registration or set up an invite system or whatever. It's not the end of the world. They already had a client whitelist, so you already had to jump through a bit of a hoop to use the place.

And OP, get a backup drive or a spindle of DVDs or something.

The last open application period was january 2015, and one of their latest tweets hints at another one soon.

It's gay shit like this that makes me stream. And everytime some faggot on 4chan gets asshurt that I stream, I point out that I have an entire room of Anime DVDS wall to wall so they can fuck off, the fucking pirates
If it ain't a Manga then just fucking stream it, the quality is getting better anyways
>>
Do they ever delete "unactive" accounts? I have one but I hadn't used it for a pretty long time. Right now I can't log in so maybe it's either that or I've forgotten my password or something.
>>

I'm guessing that is a common story. I grabbed built up an archive a few years ago with an account, but my account has since been pruned for inactivity thanks to Nyaa and IRC getting new (or newly subbed) shows first.

We're talking about old shows here not last season moe trash.

The back catalogue of Funimation is pretty small, terribe screen quality and US only.

Were is this mythical streaming site that has most anime of the last 40 years in (at least) DVD quality? I'm looking.
>>
>>15456883
Betterman and Gaogaigar share literally nothing and are totally tonally different, and knowing that Betterman is in the same universe as Gaogaigar is actively a net negative to both experiences because it offers the very obvious questions of "where the fuck were the Bettermen when the Zonders were invading?", "if Zonders go after negative emotions, why the fuck didn't they detect and kill Kankel, who was literally cancer cells coated in negative emotions?", and "Betterman Ortis is basically just fucking god why the shit didn't he kill the fucking FINAL villains while they were on Earth before they did something that nearly blew up the Earth?"

Oh, and the excruciatingly obvious bit where FINAL never references the bit where near the end of Betterman, a large portion of the world's populace - or at the very least Japan - committed mass suicide because of Algernon. But then again, Betterman never referenced all that shit going down between the show and FINAL, like the half-Zonder guy or whatever he was, the literal child who made Gaofighgar, that thing where we saw flashbacks of Figh in action and it was doing stuff like stopping colony drops or something like that... you know, shit that was going on in the same timeframe that would have been big news.

Also that bit where Gaogaigar tech relies on an effectively infinite energy source that they can apparently just make en mass by FINAL but the Betterman mechs run off a much more inefficient system that gives them hilariously limited combat time until like the last two episodes.
>>
>>15463038
Not him but there are plenty of obscure streaming sites that have good quality old anime.

Just google 'streaming (insert anime title)' and you should find at least a couple. Not even the most obscure anime is safe from streamers nowadays.

I like to go out and buy old anime DVDs just to upload them onto some random site in case anyone wants to watch it and can't find it. I noticed the 0083 movie got taken down from everywhere last year so I went out and bought it just to upload onto a bunch of sites.

>>
>>15463109
Just to echo this, streams seem to have a surprisingly filled selection of anime these days, and there are numerous non-torrent sources with a large selection of anime so it is difficult for any show to become "unwatchable". Of course though, it still is much preferable to have a readily available seeded torrent over those.

Anyone with a negative ratio: you can donate some money. Ten or twenty euro/dollars will get you in the green again.

Since bakaBT is going private keeping your ratio up will be nigh impossible without a seedbox so consider getting one. The golden age of piracy is over. Still cheaper than buying anime though.

>>
>>15460436
They're not deleted if it's due to inactivity. You just need to go to their IRC and ask them to enable it again.
>>
>>15467862
Well shit. I had a bakabt account but I haven't logged in years. Hope it's still active.
>>
>>15468059
>Still cheaper than buying anime though.

With a couple exceptions now that some obscure titles are being brought over (and I'd argue those should be supported anyways), but in general if you can buy a show without much difficulty, you can also download it without much trouble, even without BakaBT.
>>
>>15468607
The pruning period is only 11 months, so I imagine it is long dead.
>>
never really needed bakabt in the past (only show that actually wasn't seeded anywhere else was magipoka yes, because of the seismic game) but trying to find older /m/ stuff in 720p instead of hardrive raping 1080 that doesn't really accomplish anything is a pain in the dick
nyaa for example doesn't have CCA or G-gundam 720 releases seeded anymore, I imagine there's ton more like that
>>
>>15463109
A real human being, and a real hero
>>15460444
shit that's great news, how hard is it to keep up a ratio with them? just start with something newer with tons of leeching and seed it right?
>>
>>15468709
Or just download stuff when they have a free weekend for something (last time I used AB for stuff regularly they had a lot of "everything 1080p is free" weekends)
>>
>>15468730
oh yeah, forgot about freeleech
>>
>>15467862
So will they not be spineless faggots and let go of the ban on titles?
>>
>>15456631
I got it off nyaa just a few days ago.
>>
Damn, my 2.8 ratio on torrents is now void. And I wasted my time downloading every gundam series and other shit thats freely available elsewhere.

This is fucked. BakaBT is UK based from what I remember and the ISPs and Hosts are cracking down so much on 'piracy'. Hell I had an email from my ISP the other week saying they'd detected movies being shared from my PC... I called them and complained to cover things up, blamed it on them using routers as wifi hotspots.

Conservatives are gonna win this election, the fucking government is going to crack down on 'illegal' downloads even more, my ISP is going to tell the authorities I have Iron Blooded Orphans downloaded and I'm going to go to jail for having a show depicting sex with minors on my harddrive.

What's a good anime to prepare myself for prison?
>>
>>15468757
As stupid as the list of blocked titles was, it really wasn't a practical issue since nothing on the list would be difficult to get from another source.

There was actually an application period in early 2016, which was when I got in. I'm lucky because that was around the time I actually started caring about private trackers, so sending in my application on a whim and getting approved hours later was a real treat.

Yeah the banned titles on bakaBT was mostly recent/very popular Funimation shows. Nyaa has all that.

I use bakaBT for more obscure/old fare like Iria or Genocyber. Shows that stopped making money long ago.
>>
>>15471584
Nyaa actually has relatively well seeded torrents for both of those as well.

Well, if you're going talk about obscure streaming sites, then lesser known torrent or DDL sites (mainly russian, korean, chinese and some vietnamese ones) have them too. Stuff like rutracker (not really obscure, but certainly less known) has a quite a collection that trickles down from other places.

I personally don't care how you watch your anime, however claiming that you HAVE to stream isn't really much of a justification when those non-english trackers and DDL sites are just as searchable on google.
>>
>>15468969
It's not banned, you just can't make it here.
>>
I guess since I can't just refer to BBT anymore, what is the best release of Escaflowne? I need some Mecha Knight action, even if I have to put up with shoujo elements.

You can get fines and jailtime for distribution as well. You could legit go to jail for depicting female ejeculation in the UK. No lie. Porn made here is fucking terrible.

I keep saying I will then don't.

All my documents, photos and normie stuff are on cloud storage.

I don't usually spend my weekends backing up thousands of gigabytes of japanese cartoons.

most streaming sites have shit tier quality for old anime.

I tried streaming slam dunk the other day, it was awful.
