I remember someone explained in a previous thread. There was some book about dolphins published in Japan in the early 90s with the stuff in those episodes. It became fairly popular, but of course, even at the time it was actually rather questionable and by now it clearly was very wrong about a lot of stuff.

Foreshadowing D.O.M.E.
The D-Navi system was a disembodied brain hooked to a computer. D.O.M.E. said that "newtypes" weren't anything new, it was just a new word for something that has always existed throughout history. The SRA's definition of "newtype" was watered down to just mean "people born in space", while the most powerful psychics in AWGX were born on earth, and not only was it not a product of living in space colonies, it wasn't even restricted to humans. The whole point of AWGX's ending was that the "oldtype/newtype" conflict between the New Federation and the Space Revolutionary Army was a false distinction because everyone on both sides was the same race of humans. Having a non-human newtype just underlines the fact that humanity dividing itself over the "newtype" issue was foolish.

Call it silly if you want to, but at least that episode gave us Tiffa swimming nude.

The main issue that ends up brought up in that episode is that they talk about how dolphins have no concept of attacking and killing their own. It's even why the Newtype Dolphin avoids humans initially.

But Dolphins actually can attack and even kill each other, although it's not a common sight, which is why that misconception existed in the first place.
