Honestly, I don't think you'd be this upset if that were one hundred percent true. They're pretty much all more interesting than Lucky as characters, while he's more or less just a walking plot device.

Hammy has already been established for comedic conflict with the kid, Stinger with more big brother mentality. Naga Ray's absence of emotions is an episode in itself (with Balance), as with Raptor's hero dreams.

Lucky works as a flat enough character to establish Kotaro's base character as a wannabe hero, but you are right in that someone else (Spada, Garu, or Champ) could have worked in that spot.

The problem with that episode isn't strictly because of Lucky. It's that they tried to introduce Pega and try to do something where Hammy takes issue with Lucky in the same episode and it ends up not doing either very well.

Call me a partypooper, but I would have preferred if Kotaro kept being the powerless human ally. The kid from Goseiger or the one from Kamen rider Hibiki are prime examples that a kid actor doesn't need to be annoying or take the spotlight.

I'm hoping that there's enough BUDGET CONCERNS that next sentai series can have just three rangers and some side characters who help out of combat.

That way even if it's red and sixth dominant there will be just two other rangers to really develop so they'll still have a chance to have arcs.
