This. The first half of the series is mostly juvenile humor and without stakes or consequences. Anyone who says it is supposed to be a 'transition' from light to dark in tone is just delusional. In-fact one could argue that the drastic tonal shift is to the show's overall detriment, despite the latter half being decent-quality MSG material. The show started out not knowing what it was supposed to be and the series suffered for it.

Despite all its flaws, there's still great action and some of the best mobile suit designs in the UC timeline, but don't let some fuckwit tell you that there's something you aren't getting by not enjoying ZZ.

And that's fine, I just don't feel it was appropriate for a follow-up to both MSG and MSGZ. It would have been better in a spinoff series that doesn't suddenly stop trying to be goofy halfway through.

Tbh I think there are two canons, movie canon (0079 comp + Z ANT + CCA + the OVAs) and TV series canon (that includes CCA and Unicorn)

It's just the better way to re-watch UC gundam, the movies take a more serious approach while the series are sillier, the experience is different.
