Why are core fighters a lost art?

It's never been lost, there's been a core fighter in a mainline animation every few years and continues to be. Which isn't counting 0083 and probably at least one other I'm forgetting in OVAs, and all the manga like Crossbone that use them.

I never really understood the point of the core fighter. Its weapons are shit compared to the actual Gundam, using it requires your gundam to fall apart, and putting the fucker back together afterward is a serious pain in the ass because the other peices a huge, unpowered and unmanned.
If its just an ejection system, why bother arming it and giving it the specs of a warplane? Just design it to GTFO. Something which can easily be done with a much less complex escape system.
I dont even really see how you could hope to emergency eject with a core fighter without 2 minutes warning anyway.
Everything the core fighter does, it does badly.

00 had a core Gundam

Speaking about 00, the Innovators MS also have core fighters.

Same reason the Magellan attack tank has it's odd turret ejection system I guess.

And that reason is...?

Turrets cost money. Might as well reuse as many as they can.

The gp-01 also has a core fighter, it's just not really used in the OVA.

Victory has the best use of the core fighter out of every series. Uso tears shit up with it, and the modular aspect of being able to use the arms and legs of the victory as projectiles is only possible because of the core fighter.

I did actually mention 0083 in the non greentext bit of my post.
>>15433438
It was used just as a fancy escape seat in the Origin manga.

>I never really understood the point of the core fighter.
Allows the pilot and testing data to escape if the MS is crippled.
>Its weapons are shit compared to the actual Gundam
No shit, it's a miniature plane and you're comparing it to a mobile suit.
>using it requires your gundam to fall apart
No shit, it's for emergencies.
>and putting the fucker back together afterward is a serious pain in the ass because the other peices a huge, unpowered and unmanned.
No shit, it's for emergencies.
>If its just an ejection system, why bother arming it and giving it the specs of a warplane?
Because the White Base had limited equipment and ended up having to use the core fighter for various purposes. It's not purpose built as a warplane, but can carry (a small amount of weapons) to defend itself if caught by enemies. Same goes for the Victory's core fighter.
>Just design it to GTFO. Something which can easily be done with a much less complex escape system.
It does. The flying brick can reach mach 4.
>I dont even really see how you could hope to emergency eject with a core fighter without 2 minutes warning anyway.
The Gundam is armored with luna titanium and is highly resistant, and the core fighter isn't exposed. It'll take plenty of beating against against lesser weapons like a Zaku's machine gun. Uso never had any trouble either, but he's a very impressive pilot.
