It's not Voltron Force

Jesus christ, Voltron Force was fucking awful

It's a solid 7/10 Mecha series. A bit too heavy on the humor and not properly developing characters but if you've been watching Sentai or 50+ episode Kids aimed Super Robot shows you're familiar with this.

Hopefully it adds more mecha action and character development by the time it reaches the 2/3rds mark of it's run, since it's scheduled to have 78 episodes.

Meh it's really hit or miss. Second season where they"re all stranded in distant planet from each other episodes was a drag. Generally the episodes without mecha action tend to be thr best in the series.

For the west as a whole? No. Gundam and Gunpla is fairly popular, albeit a more niche hobby in certain areas, in all western countries whether they be European or Northern/Southern American. Considering Latin America and Italy especially you get way more Gundam fans per person.

In North America specifically? Possibly. Voltron has a very large fanbase here and with this having been made by the Avatar people and it being a Netflix exclusive that makes it extremely accessible to the normalfag crowd. It's definitely within the top 3 most popular mecha shows in the USA, probably of all time to boot. I would say it's surpassed the popularity of the original and that's a pretty noted accomplishment.

Yes, because people who aren't mecha fans are actually watching it. Gundam hasn't been notable in the west since Seed and there's really nothing else out there except for NGE 4.0's release. Gunpla exists but those new Voltron toys will probably outsell them because they've got kids and women buying too.
