He asked Yamagi out on something that has been established he consideres a romantic date literally two episodes prior. Two people drinking alone while at least one of them is romantically involved with the other = date, in Shino's mind. That's what he told Akihiro to do with Lafter once he figured out Lafter is in love with Akihiro. And he took it to the next level himself by asking Yamagi to spend a whole night with him doing so. And he did so while being fully aware Yamagi is in love with him. Shino contrary to the popular belief is not an idiot. And If you think he asked Yamagi out while knowing he's in love with him, which would equal to leading Yamagi on and giving him false promisses, basically a dick move which Shino would be perfectly aware of, then that makes you the idiot because Shino would never do something like that.
Another thing is, are you unavare of basic rules of drama? Can you not see a cliche situation when it plays out straight right before your eyes for the x time? This is the most classic, boring, done to death plot of a character (usually male) making a promise to another character (usually female) they're going do something together (usually something romantic) after he comes back from an event, but he dies and never comes back. This is beat by beat Kamina and Yoko situation, where a relationship would happen if the male character lived through the event.

Atra, Mika and Kudelia all considered themselves part of Tekkadan family too but that didn't stop them from cenceiving a child. And Tekkadan's concept of family is defined by Naze who literally says his wives are like "daughters" to him, not really conventional. Exactly. In this scenario Mika is relegated to nothing more than a sperm donor. Akatsuki's two mothers may not even reminisce much about him and they wouldn't try to make Mika into a father figure for Akatsuki (in a psychological, not biological sense) either, since a young child would find it too confusing. Mika's presence is completely erased even form the life of his own kid.
