What are some of the most lorefaggy /m/ franchises
Evangelion has autistic levels of lore dnd theories
>>15426216
Gundam probably tops the list, especially UCshit with how many different versions there are of that universe's lore by now.
>>15426216
Bionicle. I'm still baffled at how indepth it's lore is.
Kawakami-verse?
Its split into several eras, and each era is stupidly complex thanks to Kawakami's autism.
Just the backstory of Horizon and the politics and such during that time period is rather complex, much less the main story with its debate, politics, battles and such. And there's several eras of such deep shit.

>Bionicle is /m/
>>15426374
It's filled with robots, cyborgs, power suits, and mecha. So yes, it's pretty damn /m/.
Real life authors built their careers writing books for this franchise.

>First started using this board to discuss STG games because /v/ and /vg/ are full of shitposting and /vr/ didn't exist yet
>Discover that R-Type is not only the most beloved STG series, but that it also has a crazy backstory set for its aliens that I otherwise thought was standard STG fodder
Those were the days...

Are the books any good?
>>15427690
No, they're that special schlocky written for young teens sci-fi that you get in the star wars xwing books. Some of them have little bits and pieces of cool stuff or situations but generally they're right on the edge of so bad it's good territory.
The gray death legion books are ok with the first one being the best. Any book about Victor Davion is a weird weeaboo mishmash of stilted dialogue and the occasional block of text about katanas.

robotech

R-Type, it chronicles quite literally everything in the history of their world
>>15427690
>>15427715
They're on par with the novels for Crimson Skies, but without the ridiculous dieselpunk bravado to carry it.
Skip anything about the Wolf's Dragoons or Victor Davion.

The extent of R-Type as a franchise baffles me

Where I can read up all about R-type`s lore?
>>15428089
I honestly don't know if the wiki is through enough since I got the lore playing the games, you might try there or try to play it on emulators, though I don't know if Final works perfectly on emulators

>Skip anything about the Wolf's Dragoons
You mean, except the one excellent story with Monobu.
Metal Slug is fairly low on the totem pole, but has neat details. The games never tell you how pitiable the higher-ranked Rebellion Army members are, for instance (Morden wants to avenge his son's death, Allen cheats death to always go home and be a FAMILY MAN).
>>15426216
War and peace in space.
Macross has some pretty indepth levels of backstory, especially concerning the developmental history of the VF's.
Armored Core has some great world building if you dig deep enough and listen to all the mission info dumps.
Damn it, the frontmission.info fansite is dead, and so are all links to the frontmissionanalysis.pdf paper.
It was a pretty good read about how they attempted something different with the backstory and background material with Front Mission. A well-fleshed out setting with politics and whatnot.
Bionicle tbhq.
That shit goes way too deep and has some AoZ levels of autistic explanations on everything.

Man fuck you, Stackpole does action adventure stories real well.
>>15427690
Quantity over quality is a thing omnipresent in Battletech as a whole, books included. They're not (to the point the writers themselves made fun of it on April's Fools Day).
However, said quantity makes for a massive lore-base which, however poorly written, is still big and excellent for lorefaggotry.

Aaron Allston and the Wraith Squadron books were better than any of Stackpole's Rogue books.

Speaking of which, hasn't Transformers also developed into a giant miserable pile of lore?

Karda Nui was colonized by the first type of Matoran, Av-Matoran during the time that the rest of the Matoran Universe was being created. During the Av-Matoran's colonization of Karda Nui, the Toa Mata were assigned to guard the region. About 100,000 years ago, the Av-Matoran left the core because their work there was done and a massive storm was coming as Mata Nui awoke for the first time. The Toa Mata were destined to be the Great Spirit Mata Nui's personal guardians, and they took refuge from the storm in Toa canisters, where they would stay for about 99,000 years.
When Voya Nui rocketed upwards from the mainland, it ripped a hole in both the mainland and Karda Nui. However, instead of flooding the mainland, the water came through as a waterfall and thus all the water went into Karda Nui instead, creating the Swamp of Secrets. Also, most of Karda Nui's huge stalactites fell, leaving pillars with conveniently flat tops. Sometime during this, the Av-Matoran returned to Karda Nui, though the reason why is unknown.
The hole in the dome of the core was sealed when Voya Nui returned to its former position. The Ignika was used here by Toa Mahri Matoro, reviving Mata Nui from death by sacrificing himself. Though long before the hole was sealed, (and just after the Great Cataclysm) the Toa Mata were launched out through it to begin their mission to awaken Mata Nui which would take over 1,000 years to complete.

I couldn't make this shit up even if i tried.
How the fuck does a LEGO series have this amount of pointless details about it's universe?
Or is the over complexity and praise of Bionicle a new meme.
Does Masamune Shirow's notes and FSS counts?
>>15431838
FSS goes without saying, it's the OP pic for fuck's sake.
Shirow's stuff isn't so much lore as it is just technical detail.

Its always been like that

>>15430209
Daily reminder that they had every single bullshit twist planned out from the very beginning.
Alien?
>>15426216
Metal Gear has one of the most retardedly convoluted franchises out there.
>>15430208
Well, they're keeping it in check by producing a literal forest of alternate continuities.
Xeno games
Gears and Saga for sure, not sure about the newer games.
