I watched Kabuto as my first, but honestly I'm not so fond of it now. The plot is incredibly disjointed and nonsensical, and Tendou ends up being a bit too much of an asshole for my liking.

OOO or Drive are perfectly good choices for a next show. Wizard is a tougher sell, but if you like Kabuto you're probably willing to put characters over story, which means you might get more out of Wizard than I did.

Are you new to Kamen Rider? Maybe you'll want to watch Faiz or Blade, as they're a little slower and less light hearted than newer series. I find watching Den-O right after Faiz is great, given the different tones of these two shows.

Wizard's characters are also bad. Out of the main cast the better two are beast (done better in other shows) and a good ass.

Yeah, I'm new. Kabuto's my first series. Blade caught my eye, but I hadn't looked at Faiz before. I'll have to check it out

I liked it enough to watch the dub so I could half pay attention when they were talking about drama stuff instead of bugmaning.

Also the Gatack room used the same alarms as my apartment complex so I thought kids kept pulling the fire alarms a building or two over when I was watching it until I realized what was up.

I like Tendou and Kagami. They play off each other every well. Tendou is the mary sue (is there a male term for this?) but hides his insecurity behind all the cool facade. KaGAmi is bumbling but earnest and tried his damnest, which I appreciate very much.
The show is definitely better viewed through a comedic lens. The drama is pants-on-head, but serviceable.

Budget wasn't the only issue. A good chunk of the main cast were unavailable for filming for a lot of it (Hiyori's actress fell ill, KR Drake's actor was pushing his singer career or some shit, Yagurama was preoccupied with something for a while before they brought him back as KickHopper, there was more but that's all I can remember) so they probably just scrambled together a new plot with what they had to work with at some point.

Truthfully, Haruto, Beast, and Phoenix before he decide to "Help" were all pretty good, the problem is they have nothing to gather chemistry, because Haruto's crew are completely useless for how much they get evolved into incidents, and Phoenix was making a good rival for wizard but he is treated too much like a joke for how op he is. The characters could've have worked but the writing was to weak to give everyone good significant value

Try all the 2000+ kamun rider. they're all good. Stop at Decade because everything went to shit

I quite liked some of the drama in Kabuto. Especially Kagami's arc, which is still probably the highlight of Rider stuff (if not toku stuff in general) to me. I loved seeing him try to play a hero for several episodes, and then when offered the chance, turn away from it because he valued friendship more than being a hero, though he still tried to be a hero afterwards. Him getting Gatack feels so good because he struggled for a third of the show, and turned down chance before finally getting it. Once he did become Gatack though, the show really has no idea what to do with him. Or with anyone honestly. It just kind of flounders, though I think that began much earlier than Gatack's debut.

The first few episodes of Kabuto are really strong, rather serious and fairly plot focused. It quickly meanders though, and loses all cohesion or pretense of seriousness by about episode 10 when Drake starts having make up battles. It's great fun much of the time, but I do still wonder what could have been.

Been a long time since I posted this, Kabuto was my first KR and I absolutely loved it. It took a little while to warm up for me, but once it did, I had so much fun.
