I think the reason why they were going for Alisa is because of the old concept with sword Alisa and Gun Rean.

Besides she still isn't in charge of the company anyway. Her entire point is that she's trying to make Reinford better but is too inexperienced as a person and in the business to really make a difference.

Laura is a big non character besides her sword autism and would be better off as a friend/confidant. Fie and Millium are little sister zoned which only leaves Emma who basically doesn't go into her stuff until after the first 80 hours. Really Alisa and Emma are the only options for him.

3rd's different from both games. The main plot's delivered in-between a bunch of dungeon-crawling (meaning you can skip battles if you feel confident enough) while the various Doors provide mostly long cinematics/conversations developing characters and world-building. The overall tone's more gruesome and ominous from the start, and the game doesn't coddle you as much as FC/SC—you're expected to know how combat works and to know the story in-depth. Pacing's probably better if you skip some Doors.

Anyone else here enjoying Trails in the Sky the 3rd far more than FC and SC? I liked Estelle's games, but Kevin with his lore dump game feels just much better. Ries is damn cute too.

Finished all translated Trails games now. Few questions.

In CS, was it ever mentioned who was mother of Laura? I might have missed this, but since almost everyone have some mommy/daddy issues in these games, it just feels strange that I don't remember anyone mentioning her. Same with Machias. I just remember his sister and father.

Also, isnt Valimar some sort of relic too? Why isnt Gralsritter trying to claim it for "safekeeping"?

It honestly really reminds me of Xenogears, with 3rd being the disc two to FC and SC's disc one. It's an interesting format that did a really good job of setting up the Erebonia and Crossbell arcs, and seeing how the plot for those got established is cool. Makes me wish that I waited to play Cold Steel until after this, but oh well.

I'm pretty sure you couldn't actually swap them out midbattle until CS though

And I'll be honest anon, Ao's final dungeon is just as bad as Sky SC's in that regard because you still have to trek back to your airship if one of those 6 party members happens to not be the plot-relevant one
Zero not so much however because every party member besides the main 4 is temporary, which actually isn't as bad as it sounds
