That was the only really expensive one. The Akibarangers themselves were inexpensive, the reds were inexpensive. The only expensive things were the two-packs which weren't entirely related to Akibaranger itself.

Those 2 packs are likely one of the things that killed Sentai figuarts honestly.

You could get all of them for about 1200-1500 yen each at one point. I don't think it ever got Fourze Magnet States bad, but the Akibaranger S2 Figuarts got super cheap super fast.

Granted part of that was because Blue and Yellow were almost identical to the S1 versions bar incredibly minor cosmetic changes and S2 Blue was an unpopular character. Even still, the Akibaranger Figuarts as a set, both S1 and S2, are super inexpensive and easy to find, albeit the S1 figures at more "normal" prices.

Here's a bonus I took for my own needs.

I think a lot of people had issues with Returns being a team up with the kid cast and an 80s kid adventure film but honestly I think that was what I liked most about it. It was good seeing both parts of the cast play off one another. The kids were practically in every episode it was good to see them get a story for themselves.

Now that I think about it, the ToQKids are the reason why I am excited for Kotaro to become fully part of the team. The Kids were really well written and acted really well also. Kotaro is shaping up to be a literal successor to them

Some common themes I notice in a lot of sentai teams are

1. Red is usually the best fighter
2. Black is usually the strongest
3. Blue is usually the smartest
3. Yellow is usually the fastest
4. Pink is usually the most feminine (duh) but also usually has a ranged weapon
5. In series with two females one usually takes the more stoic mature role while the other is more fun and imature.
5. Green is usually the most mature
6. There's at least one character who's designated to underwater or flying
7. Series with red-blue-green-yellow-pink as the main team colours usually have gold or black as a 6th.
8. Series with red-blue-black-yellow-pink as the main team usually has silver as the 6th.

Anything I got really wrong here? I know not all series follow these but a lot seem to individually

It's great. I just watched it. Slow start but it's basically protoGoseiger with 90s story telling aesthics

some anons on ssg are very dishonest about the quality of TOQGER. I watched it weekly as it aired and it was a Task to watch because the show quickly got boring with story developments being few and far between. after an exciting first few episodes. The color switching gimmick got boring Fast.

The show's tone was totally laid back even though they were fighting to keep the world from being taken over by darkness. There was very little thrill or suspense like with other sentai shows. You never felt like the heroes were in any real danger aside from Akira.

The reason I disliked it the most was because Kyoryuger just finished and even though that show had its Kingu problems and sucky ending it was still exciting on a regular basis.

With TOQ it was like sentai was saying "That was a fun ride we had with Kyoryuger so lets take it easy and relax now" The action in TOQ was SO Weak. The villains got tiresome very quick because Mr Kira Kira seemed like a one trick pony and the others did nothing major on a regular basis.

I liked Wagon she was a fun personality on the show and Kagura's SUPEEER GIRRL was fun to watch. Right was just..there to me. Just a middle of the road Red for a middle of the road sentai show.

Having said all of that I'm glad that show is over. TOQ sucked so hard to me that I was more forgiving of Ninninger because at least the action was better and the mecha riding a mecha was a first.

If you don't like what i said dont (You) me just keep it moving. Just glad to get that off my chest because Toqger is OVERLY praised.

Finally someone is honest about that show! Jeez. That was one of the most slow roasting plots ever. Coming off of the constant action, fun and sakamoto explosions of Kyoryuger it was hard to enjoy the slow burning TOQ. Especially when you remember that a thrilling episode of GAIM would come on right after.

When gaim would air after TOQ it was like "Phew Finally some Entertainment!". TOQ became very bland and uneventful during the time that it took to build its plot up.

Both series' have their strong points, IMO. Gingaman is a very solid and well-rounded story with a satisfying pace and conclusion, as well as strong characters. Lost Galaxy was a crazy gamble that paid off a lot more than it didn't. The characters were strong, but didn't get as much development and weren't as strong as a complete team as the Gingamen.

Just finished up Gaoranger. That was a fun series. I think Wild Force handled all the villains (especially Jindrax/Yaibaba and Toxica/TsueTsue as well as the endgame boss) a lot better, but the Gaos were definitely an altogether better cast. Still have some of my favorite costumes and possibly favorite helmets in all Sentai. Sad to have to skip Hurricanger for now, but onward to Abaranger. Better or worse than Gao?
