No? Garrod actually has to romance the girl, get rejected gently several times and you see Tifa making some actual effort to open up andher feelings for him grow. It's a rather dynamic and organic romance, especially when you consider than one half of it is a girl that started as dead inside and with very little agency throughout the whole thing.

Probably the best Gundam romance. Romances where protag falls in love in two minutes and the girl dies one month later are the worst trope ever. At least X tried to build it.

With exceptions to maybe one member of the Shrike Team, Uso generally had nothing to do with many of the members getting killed due to his own actions.

A character like Kio Asuno from Gundam Age and Matt Healy from Gundam Lost War Chronicles on the other hand are directly responsible for their allies getting killed in battle due to incompetence and faulty values.

Kio= Guarding enemies from his own allies, refusing to take lives, which allow not fully defeated units to open fire on his own allies, refusing to use his machines full power because it might send the wrong message to his enemies.

Matt Healy: Absolutely refuses to kill in battle, even to the point of telling one of his team mates to not fire on a damaged Zaku and to just rescue the pilot. In doing so, the Zaku pilot was able to get his 120 MM machine gun inside his allies cockpit, ripping his comrades into pieces.

Uso at least realized the only way to win the Zanscare war was to fight, unlike the other two listed above.

The best gundam romance is Setsuna and Marina, except it's not really romance

Yeah, it's pretty shitty stuff. Pretty much all the positives listed for this series on the Gundam chart is a blatant lie, everything is played way too safely to warrant any praise.

Most of the death is because people got reckless.
The shrike team's tactics are aggressive to the point of being dangerous, this is even a plot point with Junko. Odelo constantly has to be checked by Tomache so he doesn't do anything stupid, and the rest of the deaths were sacrifices.
It's the rest that can't catch up to Uso's ability.
