I seriously hope they learned from G and GX and have a better handling of where they are taking their plot and pacing. Because right now Symphogear's biggest problem is the cast is so huge it's starting to hurt their ability to tell a story and they'll never get rid of any of them because it would prevent CD shilling.

The cast bloat isn't a problem so much as they've got no idea how to handle any of the characters they've got. Hibiki's GX arc would have been shit if she was the only gear. Chris's still wouldn't have made any sense because it wasn't developed at all until after it was over. Same holds true for all the gears.

I don't think they really need to make them go through some life changing development every season. Hibiki would shine much more as a confident inspiration for the others than as an angsty mess again. The conflict can come just from the danger of the enemies, rather than personal issues.

I think it is getting to be a problem because now all these characters have to have one fight or else they're just standing around doing nothing, or jobbing. Like Chris, Chris is sad as fuck now because in S1 her gear was insanely powerful and able to do basically everything but she just gets less and less relevant and is reduced to simply spamming shots at mooks like Gundam Heavyarms. There's also a lot of gear users now so the excuses to have them not all just be in 1 place beating the enemy down is getting thin, or you have to make the enemies stupidly strong which only adds to the power creep/cheapens the victories/is kind of nonsensical. Like in GX the Autoscorers only lost because they wanted to.

Plus there's so many that it's getting hard to juggle their development too. Everyone's arc in GX was rushed as fuck, even Hibiki's, because there was so much going on. A lot of concepts seemed wasted and/or changed from preliminary scripts, like how the Dainsleif stuff never went anywhere.

Really I just want the show to be the best it can be and GX was unfocused as fuck.

The problem they meet is always about how to insert songs into each
episodes, which Kaneko has complained since S2 production because there were more than 15 songs that Agematsu wanted to compose and Kaneko had no idea about how to handle them that he needed all staff's advices. In GX King Record's producer even said he thought it's impossible that Satelight can handle those action heavy scenes due to the idea of ignite module, which one of it's purposes was made for giving Elements Garden's apprentices a chance to train their skills, but they decided to do it anyway.

Chris's arc in made sense for me, since "I used to be the bad guy, how can I atone for my past as a good guy?" is a fairly simple storyline to get across. It also gives some closure for Solomon's Cane/the Noise.

On another note that's been brought up a gorillion times is that DMJii are pretty much a single character in GX, and I seriously hope they don't do that again this time around. Can you think of a single scene in GX where one appears without the other for an extended period of time?
