Vidar won it for me. Tops in everything from silhouette to color scheme to weapons to F S A T.

Seriously, guy had three Ahab reactors in a setting where even the 72 most legendary machines only had two from what we've been told.

I'm still kinda buttmad that they shafted Vidar to give way for symbolism and plastic Gundam sales, and not even letting KV have a purge gimmick where it jettisons the armor and goes back to vanilla Vidar the hedgeheg.

The third Ahab reactor was solely for masking the reactor signature. In a show where almost all of the weaponry is physical projectile or melee, the extra energy from the third reactor is pointless, especially if it's not packing a heavier cannon or something else that can make use of heat or electricity.

This guy knows... I kind of associated Mika getting the bastard sword on Lupus as a type of character progression, like he learned something from Barbatos at the end of S1 with the Katana but still wanted a weapon bulky weapon to swing around.
Was hoping they would give him something like Helmwige... They kinda went in the other direction...

For non-Gundams, Graze Ritter. For Gundams? The S2 Barbatos never really sat right with me, so I'll go with the KV. If they combined parts of the Lupus with things like the LR's incom tail and changed the shoulder armor so that the shoulders were white and the flower red, and made its crotch panel red instead of blue, then that would have been a better design imo. Interesting designs overall, now let's hope they keep things interesting in the future.

>the extra energy from the third reactor is pointless, especially if it's not packing a heavier cannon or something else that can make use of heat or electricity.

The manual even says so. The twin linked reactors were supposed to be like the twin drive from 00 as well in that they are specially synced somehow rather than just two reactors stuffed into one frame.

That was the only thought I had about those suits, somewhat it shares similar asthetic.

While I like how much design was put into mechas in IBO, I felt that those were... Unremarkable? Overcomplicated? In some more vivid action scenes, I just saw some mecharumble, instead of clear motions.
>>
Gusion is my favorite from the show, but I liked all the Barbatos variants as well.
>>
>>15389433
>Unremarkable? Overcomplicated?
For many of the designs in IBO, it's one or the other. The Rodis are a prime offender of this since they actually arguably belong to both camps.
The mechanical direction of IBO was all over the fucking place. They had a lot of good ideas but they kept pushing too far, or someone wasn't doing their job to proofread/modify final designs.
>>
Grimgerde and Vidar is easily the best MS in this show

They had upwards of three mech designers each heading their own assigned lineage of machines.

Pay attention to the model codes, you'll see the design consistency more easily that way.

oh lord and master!

this. when they just got a dozen free shindens from Teiwaz it wasn't as cool as having to scrap together parts and pieces to fight. a scavenger based gundam series would have been top badass. Tekkadan should have been operating with scavenged grazes and Rodi's, not new Toys like Shidens and Hejikas....
>>
>>15385301
Lupus Rex, if only because how bricks-shitting it would be to fight against it in non-damaged state and in full red-eyes mode.

>>
>>15385301
Regular Lupus and Bael for me. I really like Washio's unconventionally organic style. He feels kind of like a successor to Kimitoshi Yamane's 90s style to me.

Vidar, Grimgerde, Helmwidge, and Graze Ein are all really great standouts too though. I felt like mech design was really strong in IBO and totally wasted on the weak storytelling.

You get used to it in a fashion. I near-uniformly hate the various badly-designed feet and exposed abdominal hydraulics, but I eventually realized a lot of other details are pretty good if I deliberately ignore those.

Until you hit the tiny hydraulics that hold up its massive upper body, the Helmwidge is pure sex. That bust armor is UNF.

>>15389685
I completely agree, but since Gjallahorn was written to have a gorillion Grazes to throw at the enemy it wouldn't have made sense for Tekkaden to keep cobbling together Mobile Suits. As weird as it sounds, I really wish the show would've made the battles focus on having a fuckton of Mobile Workers/grunts fight the battle and then have a couple of Mobile Suits come in partway through like in the first episode. That way the individual fights between them would have more of an impact and the writers could have had more freedom to let Tekkaden MacGyver their way through sticky situations (ex: using a harpoon and a MW to make a 180 degree turn off of an asteroid). Also how the fuck did nobody at Sunrise make the connection of "MW/MS" and "Snow speeder/AT-AT" from Star Wars?

Graze Ein by far.

Even though it's really just a #JACKED Graze, I really like the "machine-is-the-man" aspect of it like RoboCain was in Robocop 2. It's pretty shit that it only had that one deployment. It quite easily wrecked the Ryusei-Go and Rouei at the same time. It also quickly gained the upper hand the Barbatos until some Deus Ex Machina bullshit asspull. The Graze Ein being destroyed was one of my main gripes with IBO (and a lot of other Gundam shows).

I'd like to buy a kit of it, but I'm not a fan of HG kits.
>>
>>15390019
I just explained one. The Helmwige is like an updated Kampfer until you get to everything below its chest.

The Kimaris series and Vidar are very, very good (the heads are overdone, but alright). They suffer from terrible color decisions, but until you get to the hydraulics, they're pretty good considering the series. The weapons are stupid looking, but that's IBO for you (the lances aren't lances; they're clubs made for poking people).

Barbatos started off okay, and the legs were very interesting for a Gundam, so in its case, everything below the hydraulics was good. But then it gets retarded high heels later (ostensibly this is to raise its center of gravity and make it faster and more agile, just like how we send Special Forces into battle in hooker heels, right?).

I liked the not-monoeye of the Gusion Rebake/FullShitty and if they HAD to go the sub-arm route, I'm glad they didn't use twiggy extendo-arms like in Thunderbolt to convey strength and battle effectiveness.

And the Rouei is everything I wanted outside of its head design (the multiple-mini-eye is worse than the gundam binocular or a monoeye because it makes for shitty 1/144 kits). It had sensible feet, and a more substantial abdomen (even if it's still SEED-thin).

There's a lot of passable and good stuff if you cover up bits of the MS with your finger. It's a pity that they had some glaring issues but IBO was a budget kit line anyways.
>>
>>15390076
>I just explained one. The Helmwige is like an updated Kampfer
Stopped reading there. You disgraced the Kampfer by comparing it to any of the trash in IBO. Nothing in IBO looks good or looks functional. It's like asking some retard who had never seen a firearm before to design a gun and we end up like stuff that's the equivalent of the Fallout 3 shotgun.

>>15385301
The Graze is neat, both in terms of design and narrative. It shows the difference in thinking between Gjallerhorn and their Zeonic forebears; while Zeon made tons of different experimental models, Gjallerhorn found one chassis that worked well and just iterated off of that; since most Grazes and variants only have about ten different parts between them, they can be easily repaired in the field and are simple and durable, making an excellent (and cheap) sidekick to the significantly more powerful Gundam Frames.
>>
>>15391293
That's because Gjallarhorn is the EF expy, not Zeon.
>>
>>15391293
The Leo did that over a decade ago and without high heels.
G-Wing just didn't get the marketing push and FREAKISH gunpla flood that IBO comparatively did to show off the modularity.

Even the Tallgeese is just a Leo with a hat and mask.

Vidar's just an amazing Gundam design. It's just so damn good. Thing deserved more screen time and maybe a better series.

I like Kimaris too, though I just wish dem legs were less weirdly colored. I love the overall color scheme of Gaelio's mecha though.
>>
>>15391321
In essence the Leo was so awesome that they had to tone it the fuck down before they actually put them into mass production.
>>
Like, I had my reservations about the series but it had some legitimately amazing mecha designs.
>>
>>15387092

No shame, it's a legitimately cool design. Never had any gripe with Barbie.
>>
>>15391310
Well, the difference is that OZ didn't have a choice. There was only the Tallgeese and no other competing design. Gjallerhorn went though all of the Calamity war inventory before deciding on the Grimgerde's frame, which they modified and streamlined into the Graze frame.
>>
>>15391307
Gjallahorn the organization definitely feels more like EF, right down to oppressing the space colonists.

However the whole green mono-eye grunt suit that Graze has going on is very Zeonic
>>
>>15385455
See, that makes the Kimaris Vidar look like a Nagano design. If the rest of it had kept that same aesthetic, I'd be fine with it.

>>15387092
"Barabatos Wolf King" is a pretty cool name, I'll admit.

>>15391344
This. Most of the robots look like FSS designs that got processed through modern designers. They're not perfect, but I can't really think of a mecha I didn't like.
>>
>>15391357
>Well, the difference is that OZ didn't have a choice.
In-setting, sort of The Leo was good at what it did and they didn't need any (mentioned) competitors for a long time outside of eventually making the Ares, and for some reason inventing the Piecies/Cancer MS and just combining the Leo/Ares into the more powerful Taurus that could both fly and be outfit for space/ground combat easily.
>>
>>15391357
That's underselling the Leo. It had been in use for decades when Wing first starts.

No doubt there was other options (such as the homegrown Maganac MS showing off that independent MS design occurred) but the Leo was still the best for a globe and space-spanning military.

The Graze may win in visible modularity but that's only because Wing was made to coast on itself without getting a variation kit put out every other week like IBO.
>>
>>15391359
>However the whole green mono-eye grunt suit that Graze has going on is very Zeonic

Graze's model number is even a zaku II reference. The overall shape and design philosophy of the graze is very GM-like though. Like the other anon said its basically like the Leo and it has elements of both in its design.
>>
>>15391381
IIRC the Taurus was supposed to be space/colony only. Sanc Kingdom just modified them to work in atmosphere and supposedly they suffered a performance drop for it.
>>
>>15391397
>>15391357

Graze wasn't even the first MP version of the Valkyrie frame. The Geirail came first, and then the graze replaced it.
>>
>>15391397
When it was in use for decades, that was because it rarely ever had to fight other MS. At the most it would be fighting other Leos or Tragos. Whenever they had to fight Aries, Leo forces would always get their shit pushed in. The Chinese region's military was wrecked by Aries. The episode that Noventa's daughter appeared, five Aries were able to shut down the entire Leo defense force of that Alliance stronghold. When the Gundams made their appearance, OZ and Romefeller finally pushed for newer and better MS.

>No doubt there was other options (such as the homegrown Maganac MS showing off that independent MS design occurred) but the Leo was still the best for a globe and space-spanning military.
At the beginning of the series, OZ believes that they're the only power that is capable of building their own MS. OZ probably wouldn't be willing to use the homegrown Maganac design over their in-house design, as a point of pride (and because they're either ignorant of the Maganac or didn't know they existed.)
>>
>>15388224
How do you recreate that shield armor on the left arm anyway? I really want to make my Shiden the Shiden Kai.
